Fall Gardening with Cold Frames

As much as I have been whining about having so much to do in the garden, a person would think I wouldn’t be doing anything to extend the growing season…but I am.

Well actually my hubby is….

coldFrame

He designed a cold frame of sorts for me.

We have never used a cold frame or grown any type of fall garden but we decided to give it a try this year.  I eat LOTS of lettuce and I’m  hoping to extend the season.  He built two frames like the one in the picture and covered them with a heavy weight plastic.  I hope it works.

He designed them so I can easily lift off the frame to harvest.  I am hoping we’ll be able to use them in the spring too.

If anyone has any advice about gardening into the fall please feel free to pass it along as I am a newbie.

Today I am hooking up with Homestead Revival…If you are new here Welcome….You might want to check out my Canning and Pressuring Recipe Section or my Make it with Eggs Section or my Quilts of 2011 or my most recent blog entry.

  1. That is so neat. I can hardly wait to hear about your new adventures in fall gardening. I might just have to try up here in MN. Besides lettuce, what else do you think you will grow? And will you start with seeds? Very exciting.
