The cover photos were all taken when we traveled to Kansas City for the photo shoot back in September.  You can read about that adventure here just in case you missed it!

When we approached writing the book and designing the quilts we wanted to come up with projects that had more of a modern feel but weren’t “way modern”.  We wanted to a jazz up our fabric color selections.  We wanted to give the quilts a fresh look with a spark of fun.

How about I give you a little preview of the quilts and you can see what you think…

First up is Rainbow Connection.  This was a last minute design idea that I loved because it’s scrappy and so easy to make.  This quilt was so easy to make that my “non sewing” daughter Kalissa helped with the sewing of it.  There are are only matching seams in the center of the quilt so it’s a perfect beginner project.

Rainbow Connection

Next up is Almost Amish.  This quilt was inspired after visiting an Amish Community in our area.  The had their clothes hanging out on the wash line.  We purposely designed a few quilts that would be very “guy friendly”.  This is one of them.

This is Connect Four.  This one was designed while I was in the shower one morning.  I was trying to come up with a quilt sized design that would only use two charm packs.  This is a quilt that does.  I know MANY of you have two charm packs just waiting for some inspiration.  This one is another quilt that would make a great “guy quilt”.  It’s SUPER quick too.

May Flowers is the next quilt.  It is a big quilt.  It’s likely Kelli’s favorite of the bunch.  I know I really like it too.  It’s very non-traditional in construction.  It’s not really constructed in block form.  It’s one of the harder quilts in the book but still very do-able!

May Flowers

Bohemian Rhapsody the quilt below is the favorite quilt of Kalissa and of Jen (our son Buck’s wife).  Both of them when they saw it squealed and squealed that they wanted the quilt.  This uses large scale graphic prints.    The construction is very simple and easy yet makes a really nice quilt.

Have you noticed that there are very few modern looking patriotic quilts designs out there?  We did.  That’s why we came up with this design.  We made ours up in all solids.  Construction initially looks a little complicated but it really isn’t once you see the directions laid out.

Modern Day Patriot

Puddle Duck is the quilt below.  This is a favorite of our editor, Jenifer Dick.  The blocks in this quilt are really big!  It was fun to see how fast this quilt came together.  When a person only makes nine blocks and they are all big, it’s easy to complete a quilt quickly.

Puddle Ducks

Moda-licious is the quilt below.  The people over at Moda have been so good to us providing us with a lot of the fabrics for the book so we decided to dedicate one quilt just to them and this one is it.  All of the fabrics in the quilt are from Moda.

Modalicious

Pilot Knob is our next quilt.  Kelli was the person doing the sewing on this one and she did a great job.  I love the colors…but and very picnic like.

Pilot Knob

School Bus, the quilt below is stunning in person.  Our goal with this was to take more of a traditional setting, blocks with sashing, and jazz it up giving it a bit of modern yet traditional appeal.   For those of you who love making traditional blocks with traditional construction but want to give your quilt just a bit of a modern look, this one just might be the quilt pattern you’re looking for.  From the photo you can see it but the black print is a big black and gray polka dot…it’s really fun!  Scroll back to the top, it’s one of the cover quilts too!

School Bus

The last quilt in the book is Thanks to YOU!!  This is completely and totally scrappy.  You might remember sometime back we asked blog readers to send us a 2 1/2″ strip of fabric.  We promised that we would put all the scraps into a quilt.  We promised we would put all the names of the people  who donated a scrap into a drawing and that the person who won would get a free autographed copy of the book.  Well this is the quilt that we made with your scraps.  We will be doing that drawing soon.

I think those of you who donated fabric are going to have a fun time paging through the book and looking at pictures to see if you can identify the scrap you sent.  I had an awesome time making this quilt!
