Friday Finish: Pinwheel Pizzazz Baby Quilt and Tutorial

If you are new to the blog, welcome.  You have reached a FREE archived pattern.  We typically put up new blog post twice daily so there is always something new and fresh here.  Click HERE and see what’s new today…

This little quilt has been a long time in the making.  Kelli made it a few years ago, then let the top sit.  Then a couple months ago I told her to bring some quilt tops home and I would work to get them quilted.  Well it was finally this quilts turn on the quilting frame.

Now that it’s done I am wondering why we took so long to finish it.  Isn’t it just the cutest thing??

It measures 32 ” x 36″ and is really simple to make.  I used this thread on top Maxi-Lock® Swirl – Variegated Thread 3,000 yds – #61 Peachy Orange Parfait.  It blended beautifully.

The pattern can easily be adjust to make the quilt bigger.   The quilt is made with two charm packs plus a little yardage.

If you look, you can see that the blocks are pinwheels.  Sometimes a light color makes the pinwheel and other times, the dark color makes the pinwheel.

    1. Hi Jan, Jo made the most terrific baby quilts for Eli and Emmett, her twin grandsons. Perhaps she would share this with you. It has pinwheels galore!! Best Wishes, Patricia Kendel

  1. Do you have any problems with the Maxi Lock? I note that it says it is for sergers and when I used a brand from JoAnn’s marked for sergers, it kept breaking. My local quilt shop said that serger would break because of the speed of the longarm. Of course they also suggested something they sold but I passed. LOL!

Where do you purchase this brand? I LOVE Bottom Line for top and bobbin but when I checked on it lately, it has jumped to $13-$16 per cone, depending on where you purchased it. SO … I am in the market for a good, reasonably priced thread.

  2. Okay, am I reading the directions wrong? I’m unable to divide a 5″ charm square into 3 equal parts that measure 1.5″ each. Please let me know if I’m missing part of the directions! Thanks

  3. While on your website two days ago I saw a long arm tutorial for a swirl pattern. It was done by a male quilter. Unfortunately I didn’t note the site and now can’t find it. Can you help?
    Thanks.

  4. I fell in love with a photo of your Pinwheel Jelly Roll quilt. I have searched through your website for a pattern. Each block has a pinwheel surrounded by a pinwheel enclosed in a square frame interlocked in an oval frame. Is there a pattern available? Please advise.
