Chicken Gravy

I had this post scheduled for Thanksgiving weekend but for some reason it didn’t go.  I’m adding it here now.

This morning I gave you the recipe for Baking Powder Biscuits. (Recipe HERE) Now I’m giving you a recipe of sorts for the chicken gravy we had over the biscuits.

Yes there are biscuits under that chicken gravy.

I used a rotisserie chicken to make this.  Karl deboned it…I made the gravy.

Of course I forgot to take pictures.  You’ll have to read the words…

I started with a little bit of butter and a half of chopped onion in my pan.  I sauted the onion.  Sometime I saute some carrots in there too…or add peas but Kelli was home and she doesn’t like either.

Next, I added the secret ingredient….this…

It’s in the soup section at the grocery store.  If you don’t have it bullion will work.  I put in 2 Tablespoons.  I also added 1/2 teaspoon of celery salt.  Salt and pepper to taste.

Next…one can of cream of mushroom soup and some milk.

The chopped chicken was next.  I stirred that up but it was too thick.  I added milk (enough so that I’d have enough to feed five)  Then it was a little runny so mixed 2 Tablespoons of cornstarch with cold milk.

I heated that through and it was perfect.

This is the real definition of comfort food at our house.  I always make an extra huge batch and we don’t eat anything else with it….no side dishes at all.

You could easily substitute turkey for chicken and use up your leftovers.  Your family, if they are anything like mine, they will love you.

Karl was sure impressed with me!!  So impressed that he took a biscuit and scrapped the pan with it!!
Nothing makes a momma’s heart so happy as making her baby boy’s favorite!!

  2. Ohhhh, that gravy looks so delicious! Thank you for your recipe. I need to get some of that Better Than Bullion;. I’ve always used chicken bullion mixed with water in about a 1/3 bullion mixture to 2/3 milk ratio in my sausage gravy for biscuits and and this mixture has always added so much flavor, but I want to try your recipe with the Better Than Bullion now. Thanks!

  3. I so want to get the new Bonnie Hunter book, but so far I have missed the times it is available. Hopefully, I can catch the next wave.
