Why Did the Chicken Cross the Road??

Sunday morning Kalissa and were watching Downton Abbey via Netflix.  We hadn’t watched it before so we were quite engaged.  I was stitching while I watched.  We lost track of time and before we knew it, we were on the third episode.  I was still in my pj’s and it was 10:30.

That’s when a car we didn’t recognize pulled into the driveway.  I ran upstairs to throw clothes on and Kalissa went to the door.  They stopped to tell us that one of my chickens was on the road.

I don’t have free range chickens so this was unusual.  Kalissa and I got coats on and went to investigate.  As we neared the chicken, Kalissa said, “Why did the chicken cross the road?”  I burst out laughing.

The chicken apparently got out.  It can’t see through the goofy feathers on it’s head.  It wondered away from the chicken house.  Kalissa and I were trying to catch it.  It was awful.  It went under the evergreen tree and got really close to the trunk, far enough away that we couldn’t reach it.  Then Ruby scared it out.  Kalissa ran towards it working to keep it from going under the evergreen tree again.

I came around the tree.  The chicken decided to try to fly to get away from Kalissa and the chicken flew right into my arms.  I was coming around the tree and the chicken unknown to me, flew into my arms.  It completely and totally startled me but at least I had the sense to close my arms around it.  Then Kalissa was laughing and laughing and laughing.

The hen is safely in the coop….so why did the chicken cross the road?  That age old question still doesn’t have an answer.
