I have something fun to show you…my quilt!!
What do you think? It’s totally not my normal quilt at all. This was a big venture for me as I typically don’t make “fussy” quilts and this was a little fussier than I am used to. I do love it and I did have a ton of fun making it.
Here’s the back story:
Back in July the people at Annie’s Publishing contacted me and asked if I would be interested in submitting a design for a book for them. The requirement, the quilt had to have a pieced flower block…no applique. Hmm. That sounded like a fun challenge. I went to Moda to check out what fabric lines they had coming out and immediately fell in love with Maureen McCormick’s A Blooming Bunch line.
I was to keep the quilt under wraps but there was Rosie back in August giving you a sneak peek!!
The book is finished and we got our quilt back. What a fun quilt. I couldn’t wait to show it to you all.
The quilt is made up of four blocks. The Tulip, the Zinnia, the stem, and the cute little bees.
I used a simple loop design for the quilting. Here is my reasoning. The quilting gets lost in the busy background and the loops reminded me of a bussing bee traveling from flower to flower.
You might remember I did a video on the snowballing process in making quilts. I used that process when a made this quilt. I used it A LOT!

Although the blocks are pretty detailed, a person could make this quilt fairly quickly.
It would be a great project to break up into weekend work. One weekend, make the bee blocks. The next weekend the stem blocks and so on.
The bees were a bit of a challenge to design but thanks to EQ, I did it.
It was so cold and windy when I took pictures of the quilt.
I think it is the perfect quilt to pull you out of the winter rut and move you on to thinking of summer!!
The quilter is smaller than my usual. It’s made of 9′ blocks with a finished size of 49″ x 67″. I think it’s the perfect size for a granddaughter… the only thing is, I have three so which could I possibly give it to?
The backing is my favorite print from the line. It’s perfectly retro!!
Check out what I did with the binding. I pieced it exactly to change color so the binding around the bottom is green to match the grass the and the rest matches the sky color.

The book is really more of a magazine only no ads. It has our quilt, along with eight projects designed by others for a total of nine projects.

Beautiful and charming quilt. Such creativity. Bees are my favorite insect although I’m allergic to their venom. Seems as they are appropriate design for you…busy as a bee pollinating the world with the love of quilting.

I have been refusing to buy any new patterns until I finish ones I have. That just flew out the window. I like EVERY one of those projects. How cute would it be to embroider antennas on the bees?!!! Ah well, at least most of the patterns look quickish to make! Blessings!
