What Kelli is Reading: The Mother

Kelli has been busy reading books. She was so great and put together a few blog posts for me. I love it because it gives me the night off. WHEW!

The book she picked this time is The Mother by Anya Mora.

Kelli writes:
“Just finished this book—-and it was really good! Twisty until the end! I just started listening to books on Everand. After my trial period, it will be like 10.99 per month but has a different mix of books and media than hoopla so I really like it. The book kind of gave the reader all the pieces and then I had to summarize them all to formulate the intended outcome, but it wasn’t what I thought it would be…but when looked at from the “normal” perspective, all of the clues still made sense and supported the outcome.

Here’s what Amazon has to say:
I see the message: A teenage boy from Port Rainier has been airlifted to Harbor Hill Hospital. Critical injuries.

My heart crawls up my throat and I grip the table. Lost for words. Tears fill my eyes. Ezra?

I already lost my husband to a tragic accident.
I can’t lose my son, too.

I call Ezra again, not wanting to believe the worst. That he hasn’t picked up because he’s the boy in hospital.

I race back to our house. Ezra’s in his room playing video games. His phone died. Relief washes through me. He’s okay.

Actually, it turns out the boy in the hospital is Ezra’s childhood friend. He was attacked and left for dead out on the clay fields.

The next day I go down to the basement to do laundry.

I know my stains. This is no ordinary stain. It’s blood. My teenage son’s dark denim blue jeans size 31×34, caked in orange clay and dark red blood.

Is my son a killer?”

Amazon readers gave the book 4.2 stars. Kelli said she would agree!!

You can find the book HERE if you are interested. Right now the book is free for Kindle Unlimited users.

  1. I just checked previous posts and I was able to read your cancer update post. It was all wonky at first but seems to be OK now. As always, I am so impressed with your positive, upbeat attitude. Hope the numbers are showing improvement. Thinking of you and your family!
