What I’ve Been Watching…

I haven’t had much television or stitching time, but when I did, I hit a couple of awesome shows I have to tell you about.

Are you a PBS fan?  Are you a WWII fan?  If you are, you must watch Atlantic Crossing.

Atlantic Crossing | PBS

The show starts as WWII is erupting.  It focuses on the royal family from Norway.  Here is the synopsis:
A princess steals the heart of the president of the United States in an epic drama based on the World War II relationship of Franklin Roosevelt and Norwegian Crown Princess Martha. Kyle MacLachlan (Twin Peaks, Sex and the City) stars as Roosevelt, opposite Swedish star Sofia Helin (The Bridge) as the beautiful Martha, who flees the Nazis with her three young children and lives under Roosevelt’s protection. The eight-part series co-stars Tobias Santelmann as Crown Prince Olav and Harriet Sansom Harris as First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt.”

If you go to PBS’s website they do a Fact/Fiction page for each episode and I’ve been enjoying that.  I’ve found myself looking up history online too.  I know that once I do that, I’ve found a show that has me hooked.  I HIGHLY recommend it.  It is currently playing on PBS.

I rented a movie.  I rarely do that but am so glad I did.  I streamed it through Amazon.  You can find the movie HERE.  I saw a preview of the movie and knew immediatly, if I were going to the theatre I would have like to see this so, I rented it.  The movie is Six Minutes to Midnight.  Judi Dench is in it so I had to give it a try.

FILM: SIX MINUTES TO MIDNIGHT – LUMIERE CINEMA

The story is based on real events.  I found the movie very interesting and it was a big treat for me to rent a movie.

Here is the synopsis:
Summer 1939. Influential families in Nazi Germany have sent their daughters to a finishing school in an English seaside town to learn the language and be ambassadors for a future looking National Socialist. A teacher there sees what is coming and is trying to raise the alarm. But the authorities believe he is the problem.”

Here is the trailer…

Again, the movie is HERE.

Another show I watched and HIGHLY recommend is Unforgotten.  I think I’ve told you this before.  This is originally a PBS series.  Seasons 1-3 are available on Amazon Prime.  HERE is a link.

Unforgotten (TV Series 2015– ) - IMDb
This show made me fall in love with Nicola Walker.  She’s the lead in this series.  She does an amazing job.  I just love series.

I am NEVER someone who rewatches anything.  This series I might just rewatch.

I belong to a Facebook group that is British Television related.  Someone on there said that Season 4 of Unforgotten was on Youtube.  I was THRILLED!!  I watched it and a couple days after I saw the last episode, it was removed from Youtube.  Season 4 will be aired in the Fall.  In the meantime, if you haven’t watched this series, watch it!!  It’s so good.

Again, I watched through Amazon Prime.

I also watched the Prembrokeshire Murders on Britbox.

The Pembrokeshire Murders (TV Mini-Series 2021) - IMDb
Britbox does some great mini series shows that tell about old criminal cases.  I’ve watched a few of them and have loved them.

Here’s a synopsis of Pembrokeshire Murders:
The Pembrokeshire Murders is a British three-part television drama miniseries, based on the Pembrokeshire murders by Welsh serial killer John Cooper. In 2006, newly promoted Detective Superintendent Steve Wilkins decided to reopen two unsolved 1980s murder cases linked with a string of burglaries.”

Here’s the trailer…

These are my favorites lately.

If you’ve found something interesting to watch, please share.  I’m always looking for something good.

  1. Carole Hicks

Nicola Walker also stars in PBS series Last Tango in Halifax. Another good show is Happy Valley. Love British television.

  2. I have been trying to see as much extra information about the Crossing the Atlantic as possible. I recall this was something just wisped over in world history and the history of the world wars. Strange when we see the interest one of our Presidents had in the Princess. I thought you might be interested in it and have some comments but recalled all that is going on in your family and dismissed that thought. Thanks
Have you been able to locate the medical treatment she sought in the US ???
It was good news to hear Nicola Walkers series is continuing. Thanks
What was the excuse for taking it down on Youtube?????

  3. Thanks for the suggestions. Jo. We are big fans of Unforgotten as well. Good to hear it will be back in the fall. Judi Dench is one of my favorite actresses, and I hadn’t heard of Six Minutes.

  4. Thanks for the recommendations, Jo. We are delighted that Midsomer Murders Season 22 is here! One episode each week….And we’re so enjoying new episodes of The Brokenwood Mysteries on Acorn.

  5. MARLENE CALSBEEK

Jo, I just finished listening to an audiobook that I think you would like, The Kitchen Front. Very good and long so it was great for listening while long arm quilting.

      1. It is worth the wait, part of the story is using what you have to make a meal, I thought it would interest you.

  6. We loved Atlantic Crossing. Also love most of the English detective shows. So much less violent than US mysteries

  7. I remember you’re a fan of Line of Duty. The next series will be available later this month on Britbox. I also liked A Confession on Britbox, and the first episode of Grace showed promise.

  8. I added all 4 shows to my “must watch” list and will binge watch them. We have taken an extended trip to Georgia to help my ailing mother in law, and she doesn’t have internet, so no good Netflix, Amazon or Hulu tv for us.
I am anxiously waiting returning home to get back to our normal life, and especially my quilting.
    Have a wonderful Mother’s Day.

  9. Been watching Atlantic Crossing and all the other brit series on PBS. And Amazon too. I am going to rent that same movie. Hubby did not want to but I’m going to do it.
You might enjoy The Collection on Prime about a Paris fashion house in 1948 trying to come back from the war. The fabrics and beautiful dresses are worth watching it.

  10. Well, well, well, I’ve now spent all day watching your recommends. ‘m 5 episodes into Atlantic Crossing, 2 episodes into Unforgotten. I also enjoy Nicola Walker- loved her in Last Tango In Halifax. I am also a big fan of the way those “over the pond” do detective shows. Good thing my family is grown and gone so no one tosay when’s dinner. Thanks.
