I had an okay week in the sewing room. I didn’t get as much done as usual, but I worked on several projects, which made it hard to seem like I accomplished a lot.
I had one machine occupied with my bow tie quilt. I’ve tried to record a video twice…I’ve had problems twice. I ended up getting the quilt as far along as I could and still be able to try to record a video again. I was so frustrated with the recording part of things…but happy with the quilt.
While that was tying up one machine, I went to the other. I am repeatedly thankful to Doreen for gifting me the matching machine. I use it MUCH more than I ever anticipated.
I started working on my John Deere quilt. This one will be donated when I’m done with it.
I am making a modified Lori Holt quilt. The bottom will all be these John Deere squares…then there will be a stripe that says “John Deere”. Then more squares along the top. I have all of the squares sewn together. I just need to make the “John Deere” letters.
Last week, I told you I was working on the 16 patch blocks. They are done, and I’m putting the quilt together now. This is my own design, and I don’t have a picture of what it’s going to look like. You can see a peek in the photo below. I am loving how it’s looking. I can’t wait until it’s a top.
I also put a few little friendship stars together.
They are for this Bonnie Hunter quilt, Dawn’s Early Light. I am altering the colors of the design. Bonnie has red and white star blocks. I’ll have blue and white star blocks. I went with the blue and white because I had that big stack of blue-and-white half-square triangles from a blog reader.
This is a long-term project, unless Kelli comes and sews with me one day. She loves to do string blocks and will help me knock it out more quickly. I have someone in mind to give this to once it’s done. This is likely one of those projects I do little by little behind the scenes and suddenly will be ready to for me to put together and you all will wonder how I got it done so fast…but in truth, I’ve been working on it for a long time.
I have three quilts that are close to being quilt tops. The Bow Tie quilt, the John Deere quilt, and the Star with 16 patches. I’m hoping one of them will be on the quilting frame the next time I share what I’m doing in the sewing room with you.
I’m excited to see these projects moving along.

What wonderful work. Looks like you are having some good, creative fun. I lost my mojo completely for about a month, but am gradually getting it back. Your posts actually have helped me get back to quilting and doing!!
Your bow tie quilt is beautiful and I like how it really looks like the squares are wearing bow ties. You have great to be quilts started. I am anxious to see how you make the John Deere letters. Your”free hand” letters are always so fun. Anyway great work for the week!

I have been having a challenge with getting a new old even feed for my old Singer heavy duty 4623 and i just might put away the plans for any more lighter weight quilts for our pregnancy center,
Jo, I’m sorry to be a bother. I know that you make many of the alphabetical letter blocks that you make free hand, but I thought that I remembered you talking about a book with alphabetical blocks in it. I have tried computer searches within and without your blog using several combinations of terms with no luck. Can you tell me if there was a book and it’s name?
