What I’m Working On: March 9th, 2026

I had a lot of company over the weekend again. That left me with not so much sewing time. It’s all okay. I love the company and enjoy spending time with them.

Last Sunday, I was in the sewing room and started sewing together the string triangles that the girls and I had worked on. I ended up with a happy little stack.

I also worked on putting together my Train Tracks leftover quilt. Then, on Monday morning, I was up early and put the borders on. I love how this top turned out. The border print was from Ila. THANKS!!

I also started sewing together some strips for the piano keyboard border we are planning for the patriotic string quilt. I trimmed them all up and made a cute stack of them. I’m cutting them at 5″ and will sew them together once I have more pieces.

Tuesday, I didn’t take care of Anders, so I made plans to try to get a quilt on the longarm. The pile at the longarm is growing, and I don’t like it when that happens.

I ended up making a backing for the Train Tracks Leftover quilt…

I loaded it and longarmed it.

I bound it too. Now I just need to take pictures and write the blog post.

The previous day, I had depapered all the string triangles for the patriotic string quilt. I sewed them together into blocks.

On Tuesday, I also loaded this community quilt on the longarm. It has been here for an embarrassingly long time!!

I was stuck on how to longarm it. With suggestions for Ila, I finally tackled it.

…and I bound it right away.

Wednesday, I had Anders, so I was up early and sewed for 30 minutes before he came. I sewed more piano keyboard border pieces. During the day, I ironed the blocks and started cutting the strips into 5″ segments for the border.

Thursday morning, I was up early. I got the piano keyboard strips that I had cut, sewn into strips. Now they are ready when I get to that stage.

Then while Anders was napping I got things ready so I can start sewing the half blocks together. I only need six of these.

My daughter Kelli is going to be here part of Sunday and Monday. I’ve been trying to decide what we want to work on. She’s always so good about helping me jump ahead on a project. Which project do I want to jump ahead?

The train tracks quilt makes me think of my Boston commons quilt, which is a finished top. And yes that brown border just sets it off.

Monday What I’m Working On posts are my favorite! (OK…maybe a tie with what you find when you go thrifting.) I live vicariously through your triumphs in the sewing room!

  3. I think you always seem to get so much accomplished…even when you say you didn’t have much time in the sewing room. I try to sew everyday, even if it’s only for 15minutes. I am always surprised by how much you can get done, even with what seems like small steps. You are and inspiration Jo!

  4. Where did you find the train tracks pattern. I really like that! It really is fun to just use fabric from our stash for a project, isn’t it.

  5. I’m looking forward to the pictures and blog about the finished quilts. You accomplished much in your sewing room even if it doesn’t seem like it. I am sure you and Kelli had fun sewing together and got lots done.

  6. Jo, I really like your train tracks quilt. I’m looking forward to your spiderweb finish. Red, white, and blue will really give it a different look!
    Love and prayers
