What I’m Working On: March 23, 2026

Oh my goodness…the month is disappearing! It’s a great reminder that I need to keep working on projects.

I did just that. My patriotic spider web string quilt is now a top.

It turned out a little bigger than I anticipated, but that’s okay. Now I just need a backing, and I need to get the quilt that is currently on the longarm, finished so this one can be loaded…Oh, the joy of having so many projects going at once!!

Happily my friend Doreen gifted be a big bag of backing fabrics that would be perfect for this. I just need to pick on and get it on the longarm.

I didn’t get as much done as I sometimes do. The family was home over the weekend and there was no sewing time then. Here is where was on my Midnight Flight quilt last week.

I keep doing a little more and a little more. I sew some in the evening…

Then I iron and prep what I sewing the next day.

Sometimes I cut more pieces out.

I think this week I’ll finish up all the pieces and will be able to start constructing blocks. I’m happy with the progress.

I have had my Train Tracks quilt on the long arm for a couple of weeks. I’m happy to say that it is now OFF THE LONGARM!! Yahoo!!

I need to bind it, and then it will be all the way done. I’m hoping to do that tomorrow…or later this week.

I pulled a new UFO. This one wasn’t on the sewing room island. This one I actually hunted for. Someone sent me these bonus half square triangles. I’m trimming them all down to 3″ sized. There are about 80 of them.

I pulled some more similar fabrics and cut lots more half-square triangles.

At this point, I think this will be a simple half-square triangle baby quilt. It’s simple, but I think the colors will be fun. I’m just trying to clean out more things…I was in a spring mood, and the bright colors were feeding my soul.

I got them all sewn and a bunch more pieces for my Midnight Flight quilt. I’ll be ironing them all the next time Anders is here for the day.

For now, the weather is nice, and I’m thinking more about the outdoors and getting some yard work done while I am still feeling okay.

I am excited to have a new project going. I just love the colors of the new half-square triangle baby quilt. I’m hoping to get either Ila’s quilt or the patriotic quilt on the longarm this week!! I’d love to keep them moving and get them out of the sewing room.

  1. I love your bright colors – great colors for spring!
Your progress on your quilts is great – the half square triangles is such a simply beautiful quilt – I do love it and I love making them!
    Love and Prayers

  2. Oh, this makes me want to make a triangle baby quilt with spring colors right now! But I have been sewing in the guest room and we have company coming on Wednesday, so that room is packed up. (I have my real sewing room downstairs. lol.) So excited that I just bought a long arm and it’s being delivered tomorrow!! Been dreaming about this for years. Jo, why do you have the tape measure on the bottom roller of your long arm? How is it attached? I have been curious about it. I think you recently said Kramer put it on there but I don’t know the why, how, etc.

    1. I’ll write a blog post about it but the quick answer is for measuring my quilt tops easily and it helps with piecing backings together.

  3. I wish I could get as much done in a week as you do! I am still making progress on my long awaited bed quilt. It’s the first quilt I have ever made just for me. But, the progress is really slow. Oh well…maybe it will be a finish by the end of the year. Unlike you, I can’t work on more than one project at a time while I’m making pieces. Once I start putting blocks together or assembling the top, I will pick up new units as leaders/enders. It’s just how my mind works. I get too anxious with multiple projects going. It’s bad enough that I have 12 tops waiting to be quilted. I will not start any more tops until I take some off that list, but right now, I’m struggling with my longarm skipping stitches, so the battle continues! I’ve had a baby quilt on there since January and have only been able to get about a square foot of it quilted. With my hip injury, I can’t crawl around under the frame to check tension on the bottom of the quilt, so it sits until I’m better. It’s always something…..

    1. Hoping you can give yourself some grace. I know it’s hard, but quilting can wait. You hip is the most important thing. Remember I finish very few quilts last year. Take care of you!!

  4. Good progress was made! I really like the train tracks quilt. I am looking forward to seeing the HST baby quilt when you piece it. One can do so much with HSTs.

  5. Looking forward to see what you do with this. I have similar HST’s made from a couple of 5”charm packs gifted to me (matched with white). Haven’t decided on a layout yet.
