What I’m Working On: July 6, 2026

I was able to sneak into the sewing room once this week. I initially thought I would get a couple days in the sewing room but that didn’t happen. We had the grandkids last week three different times. On top of that, we are still sorting through Rick’s things that we moved. We’re getting some accounts consolidated too. It all takes a lot of time. As I’m writing this, we are waiting for someone to come and talk to us about changing the internet services. There are so many little things.

I worked on my Midnight Flight blocks…and sewed the ones I had finished into rows. I’ve been dying to see how they will all look together. I don’t have about half of the blocks done, but seeing these two rows together is inspiration to make more blocks.

Then I worked on getting my 16 Patch Stars off the frame. I finished the longarm work on it last week, but I didn’t have time to get it off the frame or to bind it.

When it came time to bind it, I decided to go scrappy…I pulled my leftover binding strips and picked some that would work.

Yes…I do save my leftover binding strips for this very purpose.

I got that bound, so it was time to move to the next project that needed attention…

I decided to load my 50-cent quilt top onto the frame. I had the perfect sheet for the backing.

If you remember, I added the small inner border and then the red outer border to it.

I have a couple of benefits coming up, and I’d like to donate this quilt. So I best keep working on it.

That was all I got done on my one sneak away to the sewing room.

I’m happy with my progress. Little by little I keep getting a few things closer to a finish.

  1. We have such short summers here in the Midwest. Enjoy them while you can. There’s always time for sewing in the winter!

  2. You have so much going on that it’s a wonder that you got to “sneak” into your sewing room at all. You are certainly making great progress on the projects you have started.

  3. Hello from Michigan. I’d love to see some good photos of the full finished 16 patch star quilt. It looks incredible!

      1. I’m using an iPad and the body of the blog has changed to almost ad-free. There are small gray boxes at the end of some paragraphs that are almost unnoticeable. There are still ads in the comment section but they are much smaller in size. I’m not sure when the change occurred, but it has made reading the blog much more enjoyable.

  4. With everything you have on your plate its amazing that you got any sewing done this week. Enjoy the grandkids, getting Rick settled in, and working on the garage space. I havent been in my sewing space for 3 weeks, except to mend 2 pair of jeans for our son.

I too like your 16 patch star quilt. Can’t wait to see a picture of it finished.
