What I’m Working On…

I think my groove for sewing is back and in full swing. I accomplished a few things last week.

When I left you last, I had this quilt on the frame.

I finished the longarming and got it bound.

I’ll get pictures taken of it soon and show it off to you.

I continued with getting projects closer to a finish. I worked on adding the borders to my Midnight Flight quilt.

It’s a top now, and I have a potential backing found. Thanks so much for passing this UFO to me, Doreen.

You might remember that I said part of my cleaning is finishing projects that are sitting out. This project was one that was sent to me. It’s a UFO of Old World Fantasy. It was a mystery quilt from Quilted Twins.

I already made this quilt, only I did it in the red colorway. This one is in Blue. You can read about my red one HERE.

I pulled it out and started sorting it. There were seven clues, and it seems the person who donated it did five/six of the clues. The 7th one is putting the quilt together. After I got it sorted, I started working on the blocks.

I got these done…

…and I’m almost done with these.

Rick brought me lunch while I was working on them…

The blocks are big so assembly will hopefully be quick. (Famous last words!!)

Hot Ham and Cheese with Cottage Cheese and milk…yes please.

I have quite a few tops here that need attention. I thought I could pull a couple of them and send them off to a different finisher. I pulled this one.

It’s one that came in a damaged box. I pulled it and, in the process, saw some stains.

I ordered a cleaner that my friend Gloria recommended. I’ll let you know how it works. I also found a backing for it. Hopefully it will be on the longarm soon.

I decided to keep it and finish it myself. I don’t want to send out a quilt top that has a stain. I think the stain will come out, so I’m not worried about it… but I don’t want to pass that on to someone else.

All in all, I had a good week in the sewing room. I got all of that done during the week. Kelli and the kids were over on the weekend, and this time we concentrated on cross stitch rather than quilting. I’ll show off what we stitched on Friday.

  1. Very productive week! I know that has to feel good getting all these finishes off your desk! Having lunch delivered like that rather than having to stop, get to the kitchen and make lunch, is kind of like being on your own personal retreat!

  2. I’ll be getting some AE cottage cheese in a couple weeks when our friends bring it from DesMoines. Chip dip and chocolate milk too!!!! Can’t wait. It is the best!!!

  3. I have a couple baby quilt tops that I need to get quilted on my domestic machine. I’m hoping to work on one today. We are finally getting a cool spell starting today!

  4. I use Walmart great value dishwasher detergent in the powder form. I put that in my bathtub or a bucket with hot water and if there’s a lot of colors, I put some color catchers in there and I soak my items. A lady who sold vintage quilts at the Texas Canton Flea market recommended it and then she also recommended using peroxide which works really good on blood stains.

  5. Love all the progress you’ve made but when are you going to share it with us on a YT video??? I miss you. It’s been forever since you made one :(

  6. Love, love, love the Midnight Flight top. Those colors and the design are wonderful.
I am glad you got some time in your sewing room. Rick recognizes what an important part of your life sewing has been and still is. Making and delivering you lunch shows his respect for your time and creativity. What a guy!

  7. I spot some ice cubes in your milk!! That reminded me of my grandmother, who would put a jar of milk in her freezer an hour or so before we ate just for me!! That really cold milk sure hit the spot!! Thanks for that wonderful childhood memory!

  8. I like seeing all your progress. The midnight flight quilt is beautiful and I like what I am seeing of the mystery quilt in the grey and blue – but I think it must be for a Detroit Lions fan. It will be beautiful like your red version.
