What I’m Working On…

The sewing room and I didn’t see each other much this week, and when we did…I was mostly cleaning and tidying. I still have a long way to go. It’s kind of gotten out of control again.

When I did work on a quilt, it was this one…Oh my goodness, I love this quilt. For anyone who likes reproduction fabrics, dark prints, manly quilts, scrap quilts, or simply has a 2″ bucket of scraps, this is for you.

I submitted it to American Patchwork and Quilting. They passed on it. They said they had other similar designs. That means it’s free for me to do whatever I want with it.

So I threw out the idea of making it a free pattern here on the blog. It would only be a rough pattern showing the blocks…not a detailed pattern. I tell you time and time again that pattern writing isn’t my cup of tea. But if you can handle a rough pattern, I can do that. But the quilt has to be finished first. Let me know if that interests you.

Here is how far along I am with the quilt…

I’m hoping to finish it this week. I am loaded down with ball games and grandkid activities, so we’ll see.

I got everything set out and started for another batch of Midnight Flight blocks.

Lots of people hate intense piecing like this…not me. I just love it.

I’m writing this Sunday evening. Craig and Rick are out golfing. Kalissa and the boys just showed up here, and I have to have supper all ready for them so I’m cutting this short.

Let me know in the comments if you all would be interested in a pattern for the star quilt.

  1. Would love the pattern! When I started quilting in 1975,I loved civil war fabrics and I still do.Ive made a lot of quilts in all kinds of different fabric but it’s still my favorite.Thats why I love your quilts!

  2. I would LOVE it if you wrote up a pattern for the star quilt and put it here on your blog. it is so pretty. You just have the knack for designing and putting colors etc. together. I have used other patterns that you have listed here.

Sidenote: I’m so happy to hear that you have a new man in your life. Sounds like he fits right in with your family. God Bless You, Jo

  3. I would love the pattern. Your quilts are always so lovely and your blog is my favorite. You have also inspired me to start crossstitching again and I am loving it.

  4. Yes, you know me, I have made several of you patterns and with the stars, this would be no different. I am always up for doing a scrappy simple quilt. Thank you for offering. Rough dimensions are ok, quilters have different ways of getting there if they know the dimensions. Anxious to see this quilt finished.

  5. YES! I’d love a rough pattern! I have so many of the reproduction fabrics this would be fun to do straight from my stash. Thank you!

  6. I guess the Ayes have it – I would love one too – please take your time – no hurries. I have so much fabric that I really need a good push to go through them all. I’m so ready to just cut up everything and go with it!
Thank you so much for everything you do for us!
    Love and prayers

  7. Why would anyone say “no” to such a fun, scrappy project? Not me, that’s for sure! YES, I’d love to use my scraps to make something like this. Thank you, Jo.

  8. A rough pattern would be great! Thank you so much for ALL of your shares. Your blog is my favorite and I look forward to it each day. You share your ups and your downs and with such grace and optimism. Your light really shines!

  9. yes would love the pattern. I enjoy reading your blog and have followed your journey through good times and sad times .

  10. I would love a rough pattern also. I have so many 2″ scrap strips already to do something beautiful like this with them. Thank you for your generosity.

  11. How kind you are to take time to write up a plan for your beautiful quilt! I can’t imagine that any of your readers would not be interested in that!

Thank you for the work you put into this blog, which warms the hearts of so many. I can’t tell you how much I look forward to reading your posts.

Yes please, when you can find the time. Like so many others I have made several of your patterns and I have so much fabric….
    Another long time reader.

  13. Yes to the pattern. Love scrappy quilts and the darker colors are my favorite. Although, I am currently working on another Picadilly Circus! This one is in greens, oranges and yellows. I guess i like brighter colors too!

  14. I made a quilt very similar to this and the pattern might have come from APQ— it was one I tore out of a magazine anyway. Mine is throw size and is simply the star blocks alternating with 16 patches…. And completely scrappy. I just love it!

  15. I love the quilt on your long arm ! I would like a pattern although I think I could figure it out-still directionsare always nice. Your life is certainly busy!

  16. Yes, I would definitely be interested in your star pattern details. I’d need to be use 2.5″ squares as I have a huge amount of those (plus strips). If yours is made from 2″ squares I’d just have to adjust figures a bit or maybe, I’ll still use the 2″ squares & strips to make a smaller quilt or two for children. I’m presently working on generational quilts (for family in the future – whether I’m still here or not). I’m on a huge push to use up as much of the precuts as possible – but with the amount I have it will take many, many quilts to do that! I always cut up my scraps into precut sizes (from quilts I’m making, guild meeting free table, etc) – so it freshens up what I’m working with. So, YES, I’d love to have your instructions! Thank you!

  17. Hello, I am up for the rough pattern too. I love scrappy and small pieces,(my friends call me crazy but that’s just me being me!) I really enjoy your posts, you always have something interesting going on. Thanks for the all inspiration.

    1. I’m with you Laurilli! my scraps fall more into the 2 1/2 inch pile–but we can probably work from her rough pattern and make it lovely–just bigger. :)

  18. Your comments are going to be over run this morning! And I add my yes to the rough pattern. Long ago I quilted quite a bit in reproduction fabrics, but have gravitated toward other types now. But that only means I have a lot of reproduction scraps. So yes, please a new pattern would be lovely.

  19. Count me in for the rough draft! I have plenty of scraps and lots of leftover blocks to us. I should say do something with! Thanks Jo!

  20. Yes please for a pattern. Can you also tell us how you used so many dark colors and still have contrast and definition in these blocks?

  21. I would love to have a rough pattern. I love what you do and watch your youtube channel all the time when I sew. Bless you Jo.

  22. A rough pattern would work perfectly! I think that design would work great in any color/genre of fabrics – but I do have a nice stash of reproductions and Kansas troubles! My goal is to work more from my stash and this pattern would be great to use what I have.

  23. I definitely would love a rough pattern. Love the reproduction prints, but have lots of other scrap fabric too. Thank you for taking the time to do this for your readers! How you find the time to do all you do (along with your children), is truly inspiring.

  24. Rough pattern works for me. Doesn’t have to be detailed with yardage, etc – plenty of scraps to work from! Whatever is easiest for you!

  25. Jo Thanks dearly and yes would love any type of pattern, especially from you. Prayers sent everyday for you and family. God bless and keep you healthy.

  26. Hellpo, I wold love a pattern for this. I have your book and have saved many of your quilts. I’ve made a couple of and loved them. Loved your book!!

    Thank you.

  27. Yes please Jo I would love the star pattern! I would encourage you to write patter and publish it for download for a dollar value for each copy. I believe many of us would love to have a Jo pattern! Your patterns are very easy to follow, thanks, V

  28. I’ll just add to the “yes, please” group. I have sooooo many reproduction scraps looking for a quilt to call home !

  29. Look at all your devoted followers. You touch base with so many of your quilters. We all have such similar interests; quilting, cooking, gardening, family, rough health patches, pet lovers, thrifting, repurposing,…. just to name a few. Like many have already said, yes I’d love some rough details of your beautiful quilt. Personally, what you really teach me, are tricks, ease of method. I’d love to pick your brain on strategy of desired finished look, how you get idea of quantity of each color/shape you need., what thoughts to colors/vs contrast help in your successes. Oh Jo, I enjoy stitching along with you on your videos, gleaning any new suggestions you share. Your bright Brick House quilt is up on my iring board. I’d hoped to use up left over brights from a previous quilt, and now I have lots of excess squares and bricks!
Thank you Jo for all the shared joy and ideas you give to so many.

  30. Yes Please – if you have time to write up the pattern I would love to have it
I am so far behind on your blog – delighted to hear that you have a new guy in your life
And always a delight to hear that your kids and grandkids enjoy doing things with you – Family is Everything
    God Bless

  31. Jo,
I would love a chance to get a copy of your pattern for this lovely project. I don’t know how they could have turned it down! Thank you so much in advance.
