Yesterday we had plans to have friends over for supper so after church I headed out to the garden to pick beans and potatoes.  That with my “famous” meatballs, homemade rolls, homemade strawberry jam and watermelon rounded out the rest of our meal.  I tried to rush through food prep and a bit of housekeeping so I could work on this….
Yep…it’s paper pieced.  I know, time and time again I have sworn off paper piecing…but this quilt, “Pineapple Crazy”, in Bonnie Hunter’s new book, String Fling: Scrappy, Happy and Loving It!, was just cool enough that I couldn’t resist.  I had to give paper piecing another try….and guess what??
I liked it!! Â I have sworn it off time and time again and look I made a block. Â This is actually a border block. Â Here’s what the paper piecing pattern for the quilt look like.
Intense RIGHT?!?!?!?  I am so amazed with myself and can’t believe I really actually didn’t mind paper piecing.  I don’t know if it’s because I am more experienced with sewing or if I just like the quilt enough to push myself into trying it…. Whatever it is, I can see more paper piecing in my future.  All I know for sure is that the next thing I am going to sew is one of those pineapple blocks.  If that doesn’t drive me crazy, then this quilt is my future….probably my far off future…but in my future.
I know many people have sworn off paper piecing but….hey girls, hey…give it another try. Â You might find you like it too!!

Beautiful Jo …glad you tried pp again. Pp is very easy to get turned off to just by a few mistakes but once you get it the results are awesome. I think I may have to get this book now lol looking forward to watching this quilt grow
I got to see the actual quilt out in Ohio: IT IS GORGEOUS!!!! It is on my bucket list. I can’t WAIT for my book to get here. Made some forward progress yesterday, and today is just waiting for more sewing!!!
Wow! This looks great and I appreciate the encouragement!
Some quilts are worth the logistics of paper piecing. This is definitely one of them! It will be well worth it. Just think of all the scraps it will use.
Looks great! After looking at the book at quilt group last week, several of us are going to do this quilt. I’m quite excited to start. It will be fun to watch the progress.
that Bonnie can get us try most anything huh?
I have been working on a paper pieced pineapple for years…….
someday mine will be done! does Bonnie say how many years
she worked on this one in her book? did you see the picture
of her standing in front of the quilt on her blog from the Vermont quilt show?
It really is a beauty!
Happy Sewing
Can’t wait to see your progress on Pineapple Crazy. You don’t have to sell me on paper piecing. I love it…except for the part about tearing the paper away =^.^= Sandi
That is an amazing quilt…good for you for starting one! The blocks look like fun….but there are soooo many!
First let me say I am jealous that you have recieved your Spring Fling Book. Mine is probably in the mail, or getting close to it. I saw that quilt in the pre-view Bonnie did on her blog and was wowed by it. Maybe it is a good thing I don’t have my book yet because I have a few must do projects on the front burner right now, like baby shower gift for this weekend.
Your border block looks great.
Happy quilting
