What I’m Working On…

First off, can I say Holy Cow!!  You all answered my Halloween fabric SOS in droves!!

You might remember last week I said that I needed 2 1/2″ strips of Halloween fabric.  I had designed the wedding quilt and then submitted it to American Patchwork and Quilting magazine.  They wanted the design but asked for it to be made in Halloween prints.  I said YES but then realized I really didn’t have any Halloween prints.  I could have ordered something from Moda but Jody at APQ said she wanted it scrappy.  That’s where you all came in.  I said I needed Halloween print fabrics in orange, black, lime green, and some purples.

Believe it or not, my friend Doreen dropped fabric off that vary day along with some amazing caramel apples.  THANKS so much!!

The next day I got 3 pieces of mail.

Wednesday I got about 15 pieces of mail.

Thursday I got about 17 pieces of mail.

Friday was the holiday so no mail…then WOWZA!!  Saturday Kalissa was here with the boys and Holy Mother Load!!  There was a knock on the door.  As I walked to the door I glanced out the window and saw the mailman backed up to my house.

I opened the door and the mail said, the whole back of my jeep is mail for you.  We’re delivering your mail first so I can go back to the post office and get the regular mail and start my route otherwise I wouldn’t have enough room to carry the regular mail.

The mailman had to scan 29 pieces of mail and there were over 100 pieces more of mail.  At one point I counted but then can’t remember.  Here I am talking with the mailman.

Oh, my word.

The mailman was in shock.  Kalissa was in shock.  I was in shock.  Holy WOW!!  You impressed us all with your amazing generosity!!

That’s when Kalissa said, “Mom, let’s do a Facebook live!”  So I talked and she filmed.  If you don’t follow Jo’s Country Junction on Facebook and didn’t see it, the Facebook Link is HERE.  I don’t think you need to have Facebook to watch it.

You all made me SO HAPPY!!  I’m just thrilled.  I haven’t opened a single package yet.  I’m going to wait until Kelli can come and help.  Also, I can’t start the quilt until the background fabric gets here…so I’ll be waiting for a bit.

Now onto my sewing…
I told you about my quilt I was trying to finish up that was for the New Year’s Eve wedding.  I finally got it on the frame on Saturday.  Kayla was at my house for much of last week and there was no chance to get to it before then.

Before that happened, I had to make a backing.  Rosie was so bored with the situation.  She just watched out the window.

The backing actually took quite a while to piece.  I had a couple of pieces of fabric that could work but of course, they weren’t big enough.  I had one leftover block and incorporated that into the backing as well.  It took some ironing and Rosie is just a pill when I iron any backings.  She’s like a little kid thinking you are building them a blanket fort.  Oh my.  I had it all ironed, draped over the ironing board.  She wrapped herself up into it and pulled it off…She’s like a little princess with a gown.

I got it loaded and the quilting is done.  Time for binding next.

I’m hoping I can get that done and show you a finished quilt after I get photos taken and a blog post written.  Look for that on Friday.

I did get a chance to finish this quilt…

I’ve actually had it finished for a little bit.  It was the first quilt I did after my longarm got fixed.

The top was made by the Cresco Quilting ladies.  It will be a donation quilt.

As I quilted it, I did a video for the quilting motif.  I call it a Daisy Loop-de-Loop.

I love that black border fabric.

The backing was two pieces of fabric I had here…just simply pieces together.  The front had orange and teal fabrics so I thought this could work for a backing…and the orange has teal in it.

All in all, I ended up liking it.  There is a teal thread on both the front and back.

Here is the video I made showing you the design.  It’s a real whimsy type design.  With all the flower prints in the quilt, I thought this would be great.
