What I’m Working On…

First off, can I say Holy Cow!!  You all answered my Halloween fabric SOS in droves!!

You might remember last week I said that I needed 2 1/2″ strips of Halloween fabric.  I had designed the wedding quilt and then submitted it to American Patchwork and Quilting magazine.  They wanted the design but asked for it to be made in Halloween prints.  I said YES but then realized I really didn’t have any Halloween prints.  I could have ordered something from Moda but Jody at APQ said she wanted it scrappy.  That’s where you all came in.  I said I needed Halloween print fabrics in orange, black, lime green, and some purples.

Believe it or not, my friend Doreen dropped fabric off that vary day along with some amazing caramel apples.  THANKS so much!!

The next day I got 3 pieces of mail.

Wednesday I got about 15 pieces of mail.

Thursday I got about 17 pieces of mail.

Friday was the holiday so no mail…then WOWZA!!  Saturday Kalissa was here with the boys and Holy Mother Load!!  There was a knock on the door.  As I walked to the door I glanced out the window and saw the mailman backed up to my house.

I opened the door and the mail said, the whole back of my jeep is mail for you.  We’re delivering your mail first so I can go back to the post office and get the regular mail and start my route otherwise I wouldn’t have enough room to carry the regular mail.

This was the mail…

The mailman had to scan 29 pieces of mail and there were over 100 pieces more of mail.  At one point I counted but then can’t remember.  Here I am talking with the mailman.

Oh, my word.

The mailman was in shock.  Kalissa was in shock.  I was in shock.  Holy WOW!!  You impressed us all with your amazing generosity!!

That’s when Kalissa said, “Mom, let’s do a Facebook live!”  So I talked and she filmed.  If you don’t follow Jo’s Country Junction on Facebook and didn’t see it, the Facebook Link is HERE.  I don’t think you need to have Facebook to watch it.

You all made me SO HAPPY!!  I’m just thrilled.  I haven’t opened a single package yet.  I’m going to wait until Kelli can come and help.  Also, I can’t start the quilt until the background fabric gets here…so I’ll be waiting for a bit.

Thank you, thank you!!

Now onto my sewing…
I told you about my quilt I was trying to finish up that was for the New Year’s Eve wedding.  I finally got it on the frame on Saturday.  Kayla was at my house for much of last week and there was no chance to get to it before then.

Before that happened, I had to make a backing.  Rosie was so bored with the situation.  She just watched out the window.

The backing actually took quite a while to piece.  I had a couple of pieces of fabric that could work but of course, they weren’t big enough.  I had one leftover block and incorporated that into the backing as well.  It took some ironing and Rosie is just a pill when I iron any backings.  She’s like a little kid thinking you are building them a blanket fort.  Oh my.  I had it all ironed, draped over the ironing board.  She wrapped herself up into it and pulled it off…She’s like a little princess with a gown.

I got it loaded and the quilting is done.  Time for binding next.

I’m hoping I can get that done and show you a finished quilt after I get photos taken and a blog post written.  Look for that on Friday.

I did get a chance to finish this quilt…

I’ve actually had it finished for a little bit.  It was the first quilt I did after my longarm got fixed.

The top was made by the Cresco Quilting ladies.  It will be a donation quilt.

As I quilted it, I did a video for the quilting motif.  I call it a Daisy Loop-de-Loop.

I love that black border fabric.

The backing was two pieces of fabric I had here…just simply pieces together.  The front had orange and teal fabrics so I thought this could work for a backing…and the orange has teal in it.

All in all, I ended up liking it.  There is a teal thread on both the front and back.

Here is the video I made showing you the design.  It’s a real whimsy type design.  With all the flower prints in the quilt, I thought this would be great.

You can click the arrow to watch it or you can actually go to THIS Youtube link to watch.

I’ve already had a few views as people who subscribe to my channel get first access to the videos and subscribers started seeing it on Saturday.  Make sure to subscribe to my Youtube channel if you want early access.

I hope you can watch and see if this might be a machine quilting motif that you might like to try.

I’m also gearing up for a big shirt de-boning.  Anyone want to join me??  More about that in another post.

I can’t sign off today without another big THANK YOU to everyone who sent me fabric.  This is so special.  I’ll only ever think happy as I work on this quilt!!  Thanks for your support.

  1. *SQUEE* I saw my small package in your pile! So glad you got it quickly! I can’t wait to see the finished quilt.

  2. I think the center block was one that I made from donated large HST sent to me from one of your readers. I had sent them to the Cresco Ladies. Clever way to use an orphan block! I need to send them some more.

  3. I was feeling guilty about not having any halloween fabric to send you. Looks like you’re taken care of! I missed the Facebook live so will watch it later today. Have a wonderful week, Jo.

  4. This quilt is adorable and will make a great donation quilt. I love how colorful it is. All who worked on it did a great job putting it together.

Want to hear a ridiculous question?!! The other day I said to my friend, “How will Jo ever get enough Halloween prints to make a big quilt?” She has followed you way longer than I and replied, “Oh, remember when she asked for gray fabric and received SOOOO much?” I didn’t remember that, but boy was she ever correct! Good for you Jo! I can’t wait to see the variety of fabrics you have to choose from.

  5. This is a question rather than a comment. I loved the daisy design you showed but am wondering what kind of motif you would use for a quilt with small pieces. Most of my quilts have smaller pieces and I am stuck with just a meandering type of design. I only have a regular machine. Would love a long armer but until then, I could use some advice.

  6. Oh Jo!! Just love all the quilts and that daisy quilting motif is adorable!!! So glad that everyone came through for you on Halloween material and I can’t wait to see the variety that you received…..Have a wonderful week!!!

  7. Beautiful! I’m anxious to see it completed. Will you have to wait until the magazine publishes it! I love Rosy!! So nice you got all that fabric!

  8. So glad you got enough fabric. I checked my stash and had nothing to contribute.
I love your quilting motifs. I have 2 grandmas flower garden quilts to do soon and that looks like a great pattern to use on them. Thank you so much for all you do.

  9. Your quilt came out very pretty. I always like to see Rosie pictures. I have a question too, I sent you an email but I don’t know how often you get to read emails. I purchased your Black and White World quilt pattern and don’t know how to down load it. thanks!

Such a great “haul” of fabric–that word CONNECTION applies here. I think you’ve made it Jo. You have made a lasting one!! You will have so much fun opening all those packages. ENJOY!!

  11. Loved your Facebook video. I don’t follow Facebook for anyone so I really enjoyed seeing you all. Like having friends visiting in my house! So happy for you that you now have plenty of the Halloween fabrics you needed! What a great way to start the new year!

  12. It sure made me smile to see all the boxes for you. My favorite Rosie picture is her in front of the door looking out….so cute! What a view she has! The featured quilts are lovely as well.

  13. Well, I hate to tell you, but more is on the way. My envelope is out for delivery today, so you probably have more from LOTS of other people, too! You’re going to have a ball making this quilt and will have lots more Halloween fabric for your stash! Can’t wait!!

    1. Kelli and I were talking and said we will probably come up with a Halloween table runner and give the pattern as a gift. You all are so sweet to us!!

Zowie!!! Reminds me of the Bible verse Luke 6:38 – “Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.” 2 Corinthians 9:6 – “But this [I say], He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.” You give so much to so many, you’re reaping what you have sown. How many Halloween quilts will you be able to make with all the fabric given to you?? Maybe you’ll have to design a new Halloween quilt next year as well!!! Be blessed!!

  15. One of those large manila envelopes was sent by me, if it made good time in the mail. So happy you received such a response in such a timely fashion. I hope you can show some of the pieces of fabric you use as you sew along. Perhaps you won’t be able to. I’m a long time subscriber to APAQ so I look forward to seeing the entire quilt and instructions next fall. Happy Sewing

  16. HI,
Little did I know you would get so much fabric. I put a small package in the mail to you today. It is coming from CT. Jo I am not surprised you received so much fabric, we (your devoted followers) are just returning to you a little of the love you that you generously spread.

  17. I loved your Facebook video! You and your Family are so down to earth and likeable. I think the mailman may have to make a few more stops at your house to unload fabric. Mine should have been delivered today. I know your Halloween quilt will be awesome!

  18. I am another one that doesn’t have much Halloween fabric, but I sent some of the colors you requested in an envelope. Think of the variety you are going to have for your quilt! You give so much of yourself every day. We are all so happy to be able to give, even a little, back to you!

  19. I know exactly how you feel, Jo! That’s how I feel when you and your amazing followers send me stuff. I’m having such fun making charity quilts with fabric from your fans.
    Pictures follow.
    Love.

  20. It was fun to see all the mail you received! I sent an envelope from Zwolle, LA. I love the wedding quilt and I’m looking forward to seeing your Halloween version.

  21. I did send 2 strips in answer to your SOS, in envelope with a post office stamp protector envelope inside
for moisture barrier for the strips. I LOVED the live video. You are loved. Stay well and safe. Here in San Diego county,CA the #’s for new Covid cases daily are scary .

  22. WOW!! So awesome! There is love in all those packages. The picture of all the packages tells a story of love and kindness. It is beautiful to see that. I’m always “a day late” as the cliche goes but I mailed out my package today. Whether you use the strips in this quilt or another, I am happy to help. I love reading your posts and seeing your videos. I love your patterns and thank you for the freebies. My package is just a small token of appreciation.
