Oh my. I made very little progress this week…but that’s okay. Past years, this had been Kramer’s and my vacation time. The second Sunday in August has been a family picnic that he often took time off around and then this week he typically only worked about half time…so with family tradition, we all did a little bit of downtime.
Kayla was here on Thursday and into Friday….
I had a house full on Friday as many of my childcare kiddos came back for a play day and to pick up masks that Kelli and I had made.
Saturday Buck, Lora, and the three kids came and stayed overnight leaving in the later afternoon on Sunday.
We ate out a two times and I cooked the rest. It was busy but lots of fun.
That means that little sewing happened…little cross stitch happened. I did manage to get this piece of fabric dyed. This is one of my #3 Dirty Dozen projects. Before the background fabric was really light and the wool didn’t show up on it. Now it’s a really pretty color and I think I’m happy with it. Next up I need to get the pieces cut and put in place, then stitched around. I don’t do very well with putzing work like this so I think I’ll try to put a good audiobook on and then do it while I’m lost in the book.
A blog reader asked how I coffee/tea dye so I took some pictures of that and will share them this week in a different blog post.
My other Dirty Dozen project is this…Hawk’s Nest. I’ve made progress. See? There are 11 finished blocks. I have a side border sewn.
I need to cut more blocks. These are kind of slow going as each block is sewn individually. There is not a lot of extended chain piecing to this quilt. I dug once to find more bonus half-square triangles and it looks like I’ll need to do another dig to see if I can find even more. This is an EXCELLENT quilt for using up any bonus triangles you might have.
Being I had company in and out, the bedding got a change including the quilt. Oh, I love this quilt. This is Rectangle Wrangle from Bonnie Hunter’s book Scraps and Shirttails Book 2. This is a quilt I will never give away. Collecting the shirts and making it was such fun.
Kramer who never said much about my quilts loved this one too. I did a baptist fan motif on the quilt that flipped and flopped.
Other things that happened this week, Kalissa sat me down and we edited another video. Did you see it on Saturday or did you miss it? If you missed it, you can find it HERE.
Working on videos is so new to me and the program for editing is different than anything I’ve worked with so it takes me a bit to remember and figure out how exactly to do what I need to do….Kalissa says I’m catching on. I so appreciate her help.
I also drew up a couple of designs for submitting. One I loved so much that I went ahead and requested the advance fabric from Moda. I’ll be making it and it’s going to either be published by a magazine or by me….it’s so cute.
All of that, the video editing and designing new quilts, cut into sewing time so that’s another reason I didn’t get as much done. I had a good week and weekend. Watch for more pictures about that during the upcoming week.
So plans for next week…more of the same. I’d like to make some progress on both of my #3 Dirty Dozen projects so I can sew full time on the new fabric when it comes in. Yahoo. I think you’ll all love this design.
