I’ve had a busy week, plus I felt sick in the middle of it…plus, I have a puppy. I think the only thing I need to explain why I didn’t get much done is “I have a puppy”. Oh my, that pup is a handful and isn’t very good at settling done. no worries..I love her but miss Ruby’s calmness.
I started another baby quilt with leftover bonus triangles a blog reader sent me. I should have designed it differently to use up more of the triangles, but maybe more triangle action will happen in the borders. We’ll see.
I only have a few blocks done…enough to putz on.
I started getting Kayla’s baby quilt cut out. It’s slow cutting as each has to be done individually. There is no speedy way to cut. That’s okay but it does take longer.
I also am refusing to leave scraps as I am making this so I am cutting rectangles with the leftovers. I’m finding that one regular sleeve of both white and black will make one block. It also leaves me with a few leftovers for extra blocks…see?
I have a calendar that is already filling up for 2020 with occasions that I make quilts for so at some point, all of these can be sewn together into a simple quilt just alternating blocks and I’ll gift it. I can see it with some straight line quilting…That sounds simple, affordable and it’s a bit of more modern look which I think is pretty popular.
I did get the extra clue #6 done. That’s the one that was given on New Year’s Day. I have the #7 clue cut out but that’s as far as I got.
I hate to be a grump but I have to say, I’m ready for the mystery to be done. I’ve lost me steam and umf to work on it. I so hope I can get a little more ambition to work on it as honestly, I’m starting to be afraid that it’s going to end up in a UFO box. I don’t know what it is, but with the last few “more in depth” clues that have us bundling and unbundling things we’ve sewn, have got me dragging. I really don’t want it to end up in the UFO box as one of my goals for the year was to finish this right away.
BUT…I am sidetracked on this. Well actually this has to move front and center. Just a day before Christmas I got a notice about a project we had submitted some time ago. They like the project but wanted to resize it.
Then Christmas hit and people were in and out of the office. We refigured yardage and redrew the design. Then instead of a table topper they said how about reworking it again and lets do a table runner.
Hmm. Yes, we can do that but Kelli was working so another delay….then we got everything okayed…so we sent an email to get the fabric from Moda. AHH-again, people out of the office. I haven’t heard back about getting the fabric and the deadline is fast approaching.
So, when I was in Rochester on Saturday I stopped at the quilt shop thinking, crap…I have to get some fabric and will just buy it. They didn’t have what I needed. So…Sunday I was in Decorah and thankfully the quilt shop was open. I ended up getting this Grunge Dot fabric.
What I didn’t tell you all is that the project needs to be at the publishers office by the 19th of this month!!!!!!!!!!!! Thankfully it’s small and I work relatively fast. SO…everything else is on hold until this is done.
All of that is VERY hard with a puppy. I feel bad putting her in the kennel during non-childcare hours but she’ll be okay. I take breaks and let her out and play…She definitely can’t be trusted on her own…oh me, oh my. No. She’s such a handful. I love her but she is putting a cramp in my sewing schedule for now. I keep asking myself if she’ll be calmer in six months??
So…if you’re looking for me, I’m likely either playing with a puppy or working on this table runner…wishing I was working on the baby quilt as the baby’s due date is fast approaching too.
I like the bonus triangle design. I have been saving he trimmings from a series of Seminole borders that I have been making. Looks like you helped me find a perfect use for the scrap triangles. Feel better soon.
I love everything Grunge! and I look forward to this being published, please tell us where when you can release more information. I really love the black & white quilt you showed earlier in the book and I think your shirts are going to be perfect for that pattern. I can just imaging chasing after a puppy……and trying to sew. Hope you are feeling better and that the kiddo are all well after the Christmas break.

I’m amazed how companies can think you have nothing else to do but keep up with their changes and then aren’t around when you need help or have questions. Dh dealt with this a lot where he used to work – he’s retired now.
Good luck on finishing your project on time and for working with Rosie. She’ll calm down eventually. In the meantime, have fun with her!

Oh the puppy thing….it is where we were a year ago and thought I was going to lose my mind. We had always had rescues before that fateful day when I saw her! I had always said no puppies, my days of that were long past. Here we are now with a beautiful well-trained dog, albeit a playful and rambunctious one. I am quilting again along with other things and loving it! It does get better, it just doesn’t seem like it when you are in the middle of it, LOL.
Dotted grunge is my absolute favorite, can’t wait to see the finished result!
BTW, did you see All in Stitches in Zumbrota is closing? Might be worth a visit.
I did hear that they are closing. I only had gotten there a couple times but enjoyed the store when I did.

Clue # 7? When did she post that? I’m with you. I had to put Frolic aside to finish some other things. Deadlines are good.
I am having a hard time too with the mystery. I really don’t like the matchy matchy cutting – it takes forever with scrappy.
Oh!! The puppy days!! I remember them well, even though it’s been a while! I think it’s Ok that you crate her while you sew for a bit! Before you know it, she’ll be with you in the sewing room! Hang in there!
Unfortunately, I still have the problem with my (almost) 3-year-old Lab mix. He constantly comes in and begs or just sits and stares at me, wanting me to play. I just finished a Christmas quilt top. Thank goodness!
She is so cute! How can you say no to her? She will grow and she will be calm, enjoy her while she is little. They are babies and eventually they grow.
I’m so glad to hear you’re frustrated with the Frolic Mystery Quilt. I challenged myself last year to make a BH quilt but I failed. This is to be the year as I’ve placed it on my UFO list again. I just finished Clue 6 and I’m beginning to think I’m not good enough to do it. Now that I know you are struggling I will forge on and get it done. I chose some different color ways as well, hope it turns out like it’s supposed to!
This is my first Bonnie mystery. I was doing great keeping up until Clue 6 mid week. I have it cut out and partly sewn, but still a lot to do. I started cutting Clue 7 today, but I don’t think I have enough fuchsia to finish it. I’m still feeling pretty stiff and sore so I didn’t get very far.
Oh, the world of puppies. She will get easier as she gets more trained. Just like toddlers, they have to learn the rules. Her face is just so sweet, it makes me melt.
You are fast, you’ll meet the deadline, especially now that you have fabric. Can’t wait to see it!
Is there another dog that could come visit for a Play Date? She probably needs to run off some energy (every day!)

In six months the puppy may well not be a puppy any longer…… at any rate in six months she will have that much more training under her belt and know more of how to be a good dog. Hang in there……….
When I sew I put a puppy in a playpen in the sewing room with me. They quickly get the idea and just play with the toys or snuggle down and sleep.
Before I used a puppy pen, I just left a puppy loose. Each one in turn chewed through my foot pedal cord. Expensive every time.
I show and breed my dogs so have a new puppy about every 18 months.
