What I’m Working On….

I’m hooking up with Bonnie Hunter’s Mystery Quilt link up today.  Welcome if you’re new here and the link up brought you.  Before the quilting report..a little life report…did you see yesterday’s post about our new little grand daughter being born?  I’ve been getting lots of messages and updates.  My son is the cutest with her.  It’s so fun to be a part of it all.  So far, everyone is doing really good.

Onto today’s post…I got clue #1 done Wednesday-ish last week.

WWon-1

I started clue #2.  I am happy with how far I got.  Being I’m an in home childcare provider I get quiet time in the afternoon when the kiddos are napping.  Often I work on a step in the quilt that I can do on the main floor and still be able to watch and monitor the kids.  This is perfect for that!  I’ll trim and iron these.  It might take me two nap times but that’s okay.  I want to stay current with the clues so if it comes to be Wednesday and I’m not finished, I’ll finish them up one evening.

No worries on my part.  I am LOVING the coral to oranges.

I’m not a one project girl so click and follow to see what else I’m working on….This.

We have a wedding in a couple weeks and I wasn’t sure what I wanted to make.  I remembered that I had purchased this when we had our retreat in August.  Lou Ann had kits made up using this pattern.

WWon-6

My, oh my, it’s the perfect pattern for a quick quilt.  I think this was together and a top in about three hours.  Just what I needed at this busy time of year.  We had debated on adding an outer border as Lou Ann had done that with her shop sample.  At the time, I bought some border fabric.  Then I started fretting over what size to cut the border.  Bless Lou Ann’s heart.  She put a note on the fabric for me…just what I needed.

So here it is with the border on….

WWon-3

Machine quilting will jazz it up for sure….so will a gray binding.

I had found this key fabric on the same day on the clearance rack and bought it for backing.  I’m seaming this up and hopefully this will be on the quilt frame soon!!

WWon-4

I want to make another gift quilt so I called Lou Ann to see if she had anymore kits.  Lou Ann said it’s been a SUPER popular kit and she’s had to cut them a few times.  She recently cut a batch so she does have them in stock.  She also sent me a picture of the quilt done in another color way so I had the option of choosing which might be best for me….check it out.

WWon-8

What an awesome guy quilt!!  My gift is for a gal so I opted for another kit like the first one I did.  Lou Ann said she had a few of these kits in stock as well.

Seriously, if you need a quilt gift by Christmas, one of these quilt kits could easily make that happen.  I know someone will ask so here is Lou Ann’s Facebook page…here’s the phone number.  (319) 283-5165.   I asked Lou Ann is she would ship and of course…she said, YES!!

I really love this little pattern.  I have some graduation quilts that I need this year and I’m thinking this might be perfect.  I could do one in the school colors or the colors of the college they are going to.  Simple, easy, but nice.  I know so many of you are in the same spot I am with needed fast and sometime many gift quilts.

I think the next one I do I’m going to add two columns to it and not put a border on…we’ll see…all I know is that this is a stress free quilt and that’s what I need right now!!  I think I like if better borderless.

I have a busy upcoming week.  I think we’re going to try to head Minnesota for a funeral…and to Cedar Rapids to see the new grand baby!!  One sad event and one VERY HAPPY.

  1. Glad you managed to put the wedding gift quilt together. Like your idea of making extra columns so you don’t need a border. Enjoy your trip to see your new granddaughter.

  2. This pattern would be great for the big Kaffe prints that I have and don’t know what to do with. Thanks for showing this in different color ways and the great ideas for great ideas for making it bigger.

  3. Love this pattern! I have some oriental prints that would look stunning in this. Looks like it could be finished in a variety of ways. Wondering how it would look with borders on just the top and bottom too…hmmmm.

  4. Major congratulation to you and Kelli on being “cover” girls at AP&Q! Gorgeous quilt! I saw it online. My copy will be in my box in 2-3 weeks.
