What I’m Working On…

Well..I’ve been working as much as possible on the “H” quilt.  It’s a baby quilt for Hubby’s great-great nephew that was born in early September…yep, I’m behind.

I used Bonnie Hunter’s pattern as a base for the “H” blocks but then I deviated from the pattern not making the sashing.

As is, what is here it in a 5 x 5 setting.  The quilt is now 44″ x 44″.  I think it’s an okay size as is.

I did a big debate on adding a border or not but I’m leaning against no border.  I don’t see anything in my stash of fabric that is a nice plaid that would compliment the quilt top.  What do you think??

Here’s a close up picture of the top….

I just love the way the blocks blend and come together.  I think this is going to make a great boy quilt.

Next up, it’s time to give this top a good press and clean up of thread tails.  Then I’m on to getting a backing put together.  My hope is to have this on the quilt machine by next week.

I have another little boy baby quilt to make.  One of my childcare moms had a little baby boy.  I need to keep trucking along and get these quilts finished.

  1. I love it just like it is! I finished binding on a Turning 20 over the weekend. I also have today to tinker in my sewing room, because I cleaned house almost all day yesterday.

  2. I think the colors are a perfect for a little boy! Dark enough to hide the dirt. I hope he drags it all over the place. It makes me think I should do an H quilt for my nephew Henrique.

  3. I love it! It’s just beautiful as it is so I wouldn’t add a border. I will be making one with pink H’s for my granddaughter and this is exactly what I want to do for her’s, no sashing, no borders just the H blocks.

  4. I think this quilt would need a solid border to “unify the plaids”. But we all know solid shows dirt and spit up way too easily, so no border I think would be good. Forty-four is a very good size for a baby quilt.

When you first mentioned making this quilt, and I have thought of this quilt often, I finally just ordered the pattern!!!!! Printed it and will file it for “someday”. lol

  5. I think a black binding would be really cute or a scrappy binding with leftover fabrics. Your quilts always turn out awesome Jo. I am loving the H blocks. I love Bonnie’s patterns too. I hope you have a lovely day!

  6. Lovely H quilt Jo. Can I say that about a boys quilt? Would you tell us how you clean up thread tails before quilting? Trimming all those threads is what I dread most!!!

    1. Well…just like everyone else I suspect. I feel like I have MANY less because I use the leader and ender style of piecing. I’ll try to address this in an upcoming “Ask Jo”
