What I’m Working On…

I’ve still had enough zip in me to be able to get up early in the morning and sew.  My night have gotten early and not much sewing has been happening then but I’m taking what I can get and making the best of it.

I told you last week that I had lots of wedding this summer and didn’t know if I’d have time to make everyone quilts.  With that in mind I thought I’d start string piecing, sawing time as I wouldn’t have to cut anything out.

Here’s my progress.

I wasn’t quite sure what I was going to do when I started but I think I am going to make some big stars.  You can see the start of one on the table.  I think a 3 x 3 setting of the stars means I have to make 9 huge star blocks.
If that’s the plan, it should end up being something like 90″ x 90″ square.  That’s a good size.

I’m not sure if I’ll like it though..as that doesn’t allow for any border treatment.

We’ll see.  For not I’m going with this plan.  It might change later  and if it does, that’s okay.    I have a plan B.  If I don’t like the blocks laid out together then LOTS of babies…9 to exact will be getting string star baby quilts.  Either way I’m not wasting time as I already know of a few babies that are going to need baby quilts too.

I admit to having a little help with pulling the papers off the back.

While we were visiting when the kids were home I started ripping papers off.  In a matter of seconds three of the kids were sitting down and ripping with me.  It’s a great job to have done.

I had been saving them to rip on my way to Lacrosse on Friday for a doctor appointment but they are all finished.  I’ll have to work on a few more string blocks this week so hopefully I’ll have more to de-paper then..or else I could work on my paper piecing.

Today I am hooking up with Patchwork Times.

Many hands make light work! I love it. I think string pieced stars will be great, whether you end up with a big quilt or a bunch of baby ones.

It’s so nice to have help. My kids used to like doing that when they were little, but now that they are teens, not so much. Good memories. I think you quilt is going to be awesome, can’t wait to see what you decide with the layout.

My boys will help me de-paper blocks, too! :) I am hoping to sew some string blocks over Easter Break. I have to get moving on some graduation gifts. Glad you are finding morning time to sew.

Love the picture of your ‘big kiddos’ sitting at the ‘little kiddos’ table and so focused! You are so fortunate to have your kids nearby and all good friends. Not everyone is that lucky! And I know you already know that!
