What I’m Working On…

My niece is getting married at the end of the month…so I needed to make a quilt.

She is planning an outdoor wedding and likes things more earthy and not flashy…which leads me to thinking simple.  So that’s what I designed and have been working on for some time.  Actually it’s a present from Kelli and me so in our typical style I designed.  Kelli calculated.  Kelli cut and started sewing.  Kelli actually started the quilt at the time I was sewing Kalissa’s together.

From there it was my turn as Kelli got busy with classes.  I’ve been sewing it leader and ender style…and over the weekend-I got the center of the quilt together.

See it’s simple.  I have to put a 2 1/2″ muslin border around it yet.  Then it will be ready for the machine.

I am trying to decide what to do for quilting.  I think I want to stick to the simple look and not do a sweeping floral type quilting motif.  I’ve wondered about a square boxy design..I’ve wondered about a stipple and for some reason I’ve been thinking a lot about straight line quilting it…I don’t know…what do you think?

I have a day or two or three to contemplate it because I have to piece a backing together, add the borders and make binding yet.

Although it’s simple, I don’t mind it a bit.  After all, simple was the goal.

If Kelli can squeeze in some time, we’ll right this up as free pattern if anyone is interested.

In the meantime, check out Patchwork Times to see what everyone else is working on.

  1. I think you’re right that simple would be best. Straight line would fit with it’s simple almost modern look but meander would work too. I wonder if baptist fan might look a bit too traditional for it even though that’s my favorite quilting design.

  2. I would do a baptist fan. When the quilt has straight lines in it I do curves in the quilting, if it is lots of curves I do straight line or meandering. Hope this helps.

  3. I would do something straight line – maybe crosswise on the vertical blocks and up/down on the horizontal blocks. And I also hope you will share the pattern. Thanks for a great blog.

  4. I would keep it simple and not overly quilted. I’m not a fan of swirly, overly quilted quilts. I guess I lean very much to modern simple lines and this quilt would look great with that. Either way it’s a beautiful generous gift!

Since it is so straight, and modern”ish,” straight line would look modern too. Can you do circles? That is something that is also modern and would offset the boxyness.
