My son has been home from college and the rest of the kids came home this weekend too so little sewing has happened this week. Â That’s okay though…as much as I treasure sewing time, I treasure family time even more.
I managed to get the pieces that I had pinned for Kelli’s Double Wedding Ring quilt sewn.
I managed to remake my four patches for Celtic Solstice….I also worked on a little math to figure out how many of what I need. Â I am making my version in between Bonnie’s big and small version. Â Mine should be about 93″ x 93″. Â That way I can still quilt it on my machine…and it’s bed sized. Â That’s about the perfect size in my world.
and I made a decision on what I am doing for a layout. Â Last week I asked for some advice…. Â I showed this picture of my “wrong” chevrons and possible layouts.
I am leaving my chevrons wrong. Â For a layout, I am going to alternate rows with the “star” blocks in the upper row and the “diamond” blocks in the second row. Â Nope, mine won’t be like Bonnie’s and I’m fine with it. Â Several people advised redoing my chevrons but for me, life is too short and there are too many other quilts out there waiting to get made. Â If I end up not liking it, I am sure I can donate to some worthy cause where no cares about my chevrons. Â That is a luxury someone who makes lots of quilt can have.
Make sure to stop back later today and I’ll show you how I make 4-patches a quick and speedy way.

Whew! I got tired just thinking about you taking all those chevrons apart. I like both arrangements of your “wrong” chevrons. Good decision to go with both.
I decided to do the same thing you are doing—–half the chevrons will point out to make the square and the other half will have the chevrons point in to make stars! I made mine in Bonnie’s colors so I’m happy to make a small change to make it mine.
The colors in your Double Wedding Ring are so pretty. I, too, am glad you are leaving the chevrons as you stitched them. Life IS too short!!
Love that blue in the double wedding ring! I’m with you – make those chevrons work for you. The chevron star block is very stunning.
I hear you on the little sewing going on, far to much happening to be sewing. It is funny how many are now flipping their chevrons, seeing lots of pictures on the F/B group that way. You have started a trend. Looks good with both in alternate rows, and after all it is your quilt, your rules.
If you end up not liking your Celtic Solistice, I am a worthy cause for your donation! I love it.
I’ve been seeing lots of those chevron stars on Bonnie’ s page. I love them! Good mistake.
Leave them and move on!
The thought of redoing the chevrons makes me shiver. I think your layout is beautiful!!!
Yes, I’ve seen at least two quilts on Bonnie’s Facebook page made differently than the original directions. It’s not wrong, just your own design.
Great progress on the Double Wedding Ring. I don’t know if I’d be ready to make a second one!
You are so right about life being too short. Whichever way you put the chevrons, they look great. Thanks for sharing.
I really love the wedding ring colors! Lucky girl !
Honestly, is there ever a REALLY wrong way to layout a quilt? I think your “wrong” chevrons make any interesting point and look good. I bet Bonnie would love it!
