We had company over the weekend so I didn’t know if I would get time to do my clue #3 for the Celtic Solstice Mystery…but the clue was a little less time consuming this time so I managed to sneak some time in on Sunday.
I made a few changes to mine…one change….I made all the backgrounds on these the same yellow. I am low on yellows and this made it easy. The other thing I did was keep all the orange triangles in each of the individual pinwheels the same orange/cheddar color. I love scrappy but I like a little unity too. I am hoping this gives me a happy medium.
I am opting to make a size somewhere in between the small and the king so I have 43 pinwheels and 158 half square triangles. I don’t know how I came up with those numbers…Hopefully I won’t have to make lots more.
Here are the other pieces of the quilt waiting for instructions. So far, I don’t mind the color combination but we’ll see what the next clues bring.
I am off to get a quilt on the quilting frame….I have quite a long list of quilts that need attention. I am also going to be sewing LOTS on that double wedding ring quilt. So far..not a lot progress to show so I’ll save that for later this week once I get a test block sewn.
Stop back later today. I am hoping to get some time to take some pictures of my Smith Mountain Morning quilt…I need some border advice and I’m hoping you might be able to give me some.
Today I am hooking up with Judy at Patchwork Times and Bonnie at Quiltville.
Make sure to stop by tomorrow for our “Try it on Tuesday” Giveaway. If you missed my New Year’s resolutions, you can see them here.
Well, I’m so glad somebody else looks like they screwed up on clue two also, so don’t feel alone! My yellows are together too. LOL I’m doing the king size. Sue bee mentioned how she messed hers up also but I noticed it to late, I was already to far in….I’m just going with what I created and see how it lays out..later, hopefully not bad!!!
i love how your pinwheels came together. that was a great idea to separate out all the yellow and orange combinations so that you could sew each pinwheel as a distinct unit.
Love the yellow you chose too. By any chance is that yellow from the Charlevoix line by Minnick & Simpson?
I know how you feel about the unity, in fact to get over my OCD in regards to quilts, I started doing Bonnie’s quilts. My neutrals are all the same within each unit. The units have different neutrals.
I love that you have also muted the colors, so have I because this one is for the guest room.
I’ll check back tomorrow!
I did the same thing with my pinwheels. Each unit uses the same yellow and the same orange so that it give it more of a unified look. Hopefully it plays well with the rest of the quilt. I like how pinwheels look in general and will probably be making a pinwheels quilt in the future. But I’ve got too many WIPS and UFOs already so I’m holding myself back for the moment. :)
