What I’m Working On…

I am working on my Bonnie Challenge quilt.  I never thought I would get it done but now I am beginning to think I will.  If you don’t know about the Bonnie Challenge, several of us are working to complete a Bonnie Hunter UFO before the new mystery starts around Thanksgiving time.  Mine was cut out but little sewing was done.  Now I am this far!! Starts-Over-Shallotte My blocks are made entirely from shirts and the setting fabric is new fabric.  I really love it and it has a real masculine feel to it.  Plaids seem to do that.  Now that I am this far it’s all I can do to not dive in and finish it.  My goal is to have it into a top by Saturday.  If I do finish this one, I am going to pull out another Bonnie Hunter UFO quilt and start working on it.  I am on a roll…. Only problem, this is slowing me down…. SoHoChic Kelli and I are working on a project and this is part of it.  I have lots of it cut out and even have 4 blocks sewn…I have 52 more to sew but that’s not bad and I love the fabric.  It’s Soho Chic by Sandy Gervais for Moda.  When I first saw the fabric I thought it had a black background but it doesn’t..it’s a deep chocolate brown.  I really like it lots.  As I cut the block it’s making some fun leftovers that I am itching to play with too. Oh for more time in the day. To see what others are working on, check out Patchwork Times. Today I am thankful for authors.  So much of time is spent either reading books of listening to them as audiobooks.  I love being carried away to someone else’s life even if only for a little bit.  I love the escape from the here and now.  I love seeing circumstances that make me feel more empathy to others.  I can do all of that and be entertained by books.  I love how books suck me into a story and make me wanting to know more.  So today, I am thankful for authors.

  1. Thanks so much for this challenge Jo! I finally got my Easy Street quilt top – pinned and quilted on my little domestic machine. I just have three more sides to hand stitch the binding down!
Your quilt is looking lovely – I love the ‘male’ feel of this one.

  2. Thank You. I have all my Bonnie Hunter boxy star blocks sewn. Today I’m picking out sashing and cutting corner stones. This will happen. As of last Tuesday I no longer work in town. I can sew every day now……..he he. That’s my new job, sewing at home, playing in the yards, yards of fabric that is to entertain myself and make me smile. I love to sew….

  3. I created an index — actually, a list — of the patterns in Bonnie’s books for the Quiltville Chat group. That meant I *had* to leaf through the four volumes yet another time. The Shallotte (sp?) pattern once again called to me….and here is your version. And so my want-to-make list grows….

Lucky you to get sample fabric for designing. I guess it’s like getting advance copies of books to review. (Right now I’m listening to unabridged fiction audiobooks for the annual Audie Awards. 17 books now with 15 coming soon….gives me an excuse to quilt!)

  4. You are amazing! Your quilt is awesome! I don’t have a blog but I read yours and SEVERAL others every day! Thank you for writing it! <3

  5. I don’t like the ad at the beginning of your posting–the language in it is not in keeping with what your blog portrays so nicely! Just sayin”.

  6. Love you Stars over Shallotte! What a lovely quilt this is going to be. Congratulations on your great progress, too. I wish I could have joined this challenge but I was up to my eyeballs in another project and didn’t have one of Bonnie’s in the works. Didn’t want to start another new project so I’ll just wait for Celestial Solstice.

  7. I just finished 42 of the 64 scrappy trips blocks I have been working on (or not working on) since last July. I am trying to get at least the top done by Thanksgiving. Thanks for the challenge.

  8. Hey, Jo, how do I get hooked up with this challenge? Does it have to be one of the mysteries? ‘Cause I’ll never finish Easy Street. But I am trying to finish Cathedral Stars from a BH class. Though I doubt it will be done by Nov. 29, a challenge could make a difference.

Frankly, I don’t know how you have time to work on your own stuff with all the special assignments you get. I’m impressed!
