I’ve been cross-stitching and doing some handwork in the evenings so I’ve gotten in some television time. I thought I’d share some of the things I’ve enjoyed.
1st up…THE CROWN.
Oh my word, I love this show. I can’t help but feel sorry for anyone born into a life like that though. From time to time I look at my own life and remember to be thankful for all I was giving simply because I was born to a farmer in Southern Minnesota. I know some wish they could be born to a family such as the Windsor’s in England, me, no way. I could never stand keeping my mouth shut and not giving my opinion…I could not stand being demanded to live a certain lifestyle or not being able to love who I love.
Oops. I got off on a tangent, didn’t I? Anyway, I do love the show and I have watched every season to date. I’m thrilled there will be another season.
Here is the trailer for season 4. If you haven’t watched the other seasons, you will want to.
You can find The Crown on Netflix.
After that, I saw that they offer the show, Diana in Her Own Words.
It was sad to listen to her struggles but was also happy that she did get a chance to speak out.
I’ve been on a Netflix roll. A movie I watched from there is…
Hillbilly Elegy. The show was really good. It’s a coming of age movie and I always love them.
I highly recommend this show. Rarely do I watch a show twice but this one, I’d be happy to. Can you believe that the older lady in the picture is Glenn Close? She does an amazing job in her role.
This is a Ron Howard film. I think he does an amazing job. Here’s the trailer.
The show was so good. Kelli was over one night and we watched it while we stitched. Admittedly, I watched more than stitched. It was so good.
Another Netflix series I enjoyed was Bodyguard.
Here is the trailer for it.
There are two seasons to this show. It’s set in London. A bodyguard with a military past is assigned to guard the Home Secretary.
If you like drama, who-dun-it, and crime shows as I do, I think you’ll enjoy this. If you’re watching with a husband, this might be a show you both might like.
I watched the next season of Unsolved Mysteries…also on Netflix.
I’m not a reality TV girl at all but Kayla and Karl talked me into watching Win the Wilderness…also on Netflix.
This show brings a bunch of Brits to Alaska with the hope of winning a beautiful home in the wilderness. The show has great landscapes and all in all, for reality television, it wasn’t bad.
If you’re a reality TV person, give it a go. If you aren’t, you might want to give it a go anyway.
I am currently watching The Queen’s Gambit. I am on episode four or so and so far, I’m loving it a lot!
Here’s the trailer.
I hate going out on the limb and recommending something I haven’t seen to the finish but I’m fairly confident that this is going to be really good.
I’ve just given you enough shows to fill about a month’s worth of viewing…(unless you watch a lot more than I do). Have you watched any of these? What did you think? Do you have any recommendations for me?
I love all the shows you recommend Jo and when you suggested britbox and acorn I went with it and must admit have watched some great shows that have thoroughly enjoyed
I love your picks, Jo! I recently watched the Green Book! If you haven’t seen it, it certainly is a winner and a true story about a great piano player!
The Professor and the Madman on Netflix, true story about start of Oxford English dictionary. Or Fundamentals of Caring, also Netflix. Both very good.
I agree with all your recommendations, except I haven’t seen Win the Wilderness yet. Will have to give that a watch. Seems like we have similar tastes. I recommend The Repair Shop on Netflix. Love, love, love that series. I think you would, too!
I’ve seen all of these except Win the Wilderness and Bodyguard. Of the shows I’ve watched Hillbilly Elegy was my favorite. Glenn Close was amazing and should be up for an academy award. There is no love deeper than a grandmother and her grandchildren. My son recommended The Queen’s Gambit. Admittedly I didn’t think I would like it but I was hooked from the first episode. It seemed so true I even googled to see if it was based on a true story. The Crown and Diana, In Her Own Words are very well written as well but they are predictable. You and I seem to like many of the same shows. I’m ready to watch a new series, Bodyguard it is. Thanks for your recommendations.
Just watched The Staircase on Netflix. My goodness, a real life story showing legal injustice at its worst. We couldn’t t stop watching, finishing 13 episodes in record time. Now going to read the book, have it on order from the library.
Linda in the UK. Please tell me what you think of the book. I’ve been tempted by it too.
I have watched part of the Crown and I have to agree in certain ways it is a hard life to live. Give me my simple life and American freedom. You are the third person to recommend the Queen’s Gambit. So I have it on my to do list for 2021. Hope you have a safe and Merry Christmas.
Loved the Queen’s Gambit. HAving lived in England for 3 yrs in the 70’s, we have been watching the Crown. You might enjoy this story. My husband had to go down to London to take the GRE for his Master’s Degree. He was in the USAF. I dropped him off at the rail station in Ipswich Town and he had just missed the train. The trains run on time in England so you have to be there. However, as he stood there prepared to wait for the next one, Princess Margaret got off the train and was photographed by the local newspaper. When I got home about 40 min away with the baby, there was the newspaper on the stoop with a photo of Princess Margaret and my husband standing to the left of her. We still have that clipping.
Oh fun Carol. That’s a keeper photo for sure!
We enjoy a lot of the same shows :) I LOVED the Crown and Diana, in her own words, the Queen’s Gambit and unsolved mysteries. The staircase and making of a murderer were good and also The innocent man on netflix. It bothered me the most ,so sad. Started a new one last night – the wilds – on Amazon Prime. Riveting and binge worthy. Also on Prime – One Mississippi – with Tig Notaro, a dark comedy – so fun. My favorite is Love on the spectrum on netflix, have watched it twice already :)
I love The Crown too! Try watching Virgin River. It’s a romantic series with some beautiful scenery. Easy watching while stitching!
I will have to watch The Crown, it sounds right up my alley. I have watched the other shows you recommended and I did like them. I would recommend The Fishermens Friends its a British show and based on real events.
Here is a review: The film is based on a true story about Port Isaac’s Fisherman’s Friends, a group of Cornish fishermen from Port Isaac who were signed by Universal Records and achieved a top 10 hit with their debut album of traditional sea shanties.
Hi Jo, still on the library’s waiting list for the book. I’ll report back once I’ve read it.
