What I’m Reading…

Did you see that Judy over at Patchwork Times has a new linky for books that bloggers are reading??  I am always looking for something good so I decided I’d work on sharing what I’m reading (or in my case, what audio book I am listening too).  Right now it’s The Sandcastle Girls: A Novel by Chris Bohjalian.

I am only a couple chapters in but so far, I am loving it.  The book is a historical love story that takes place in 1915 during the Armenian genocide.  It’s a time and period I don’t know a lot about so I find the history part very interesting as well.  Being it’s an audio book, I can say that I am enjoying the reader too.  Sometimes with audio books, the reader makes a big difference.

I am a big fan of the author.  Some of my all time favorite books have been from him including, The Double Bind (Vintage Contemporaries) and Midwives (Oprah’s Book Club).  Both of them are excellent.

I have also read a couple of his books that were just okay.  I am hoping this one falls on the excellent side..or at least good….or at least worth my time.  I’ll keep you posted.

Thanks for the reminder of this book. I now remember I was going to request it and it is now available!! I love listening to free audiobooks from the library! And you are so right about the narrators. I used to think authors reading their own works was best, because of inflections and emphasis. Until a recent one, she sounded like she was 12 and I struggled to believe any of it!

Very much enjoyed this book, thanks for the info. I am listening to a very good book, Warmth of Other Suns about the migration of Black families from the Jim Crow South, you might find it very interesting.
