What I’m Reading: This Dark Road to Mercy

I just finished up listening to the audio book This Dark Road to Mercy: A Novel by Wiley Cash.

I loved this.  If you love audio books I highly recommend this in audio form.  It has one of my favorite readers,  Jenna Lamia performing.  The audio book actually has three readers and best of all..each of their parts of the story are told in first person.  I love first person.  The story is about two young girls who end up in foster care after their mother dies.  Their father an ex minor league baseball player wants a second chance at being a father even though he threw away his first chance.

Baseball fans will especially love the book as there are many baseball references in it…but if you aren’t a baseball fan, there isn’t so much that you’d be put off by it.

I listened to the entire book in an evening and then the next day.  I purposely found things to do so that I could keep listening.

Here is what Amazon said about the book “After their mother’s unexpected death, twelve-year-old Easter and her six-year-old sister Ruby are adjusting to life in foster care when their errant father, Wade, suddenly appears. Since Wade signed away his legal rights, the only way he can get his daughters back is to steal them away in the night.

Brady Weller, the girls’ court-appointed guardian, begins looking for Wade, and he quickly turns up unsettling information linking Wade to a recent armored car heist, one with a whopping $14.5 million missing. But Brady Weller isn’t the only one hunting the desperate father. Robert Pruitt, a shady and mercurial man nursing a years-old vendetta, is also determined to find Wade and claim his due.

Narrated by a trio of alternating voices, This Dark Road to Mercy is a story about the indelible power of family and the primal desire to outrun a past that refuses to let go.”

Amazon readers say 4.2 stars.  I really loved the audio version and I’m giving it 4.5 stars.

The author does have another book, A Land More Kind Than Home: A Novel.  I loved this one so much I am off to see if the other is available through my on line library.
