What I’m Reading: The Story Keeper

I just finished up listening to the audio book The Story Keeper by Lisa Wingate.

I have read a previous book by this author, The Prayer Box (find that review here), and loved it so I had high expectations for this book.  Happily, it didn’t let me down.  I very much like the authors books as they always reference God but don’t get real preachy like some Christian fiction books do.  I like that.  Even if you don’t like Christian fiction at all you could still easily like this book.

Here’s what Amazon had to say about it, “Successful New York editor, Jen Gibbs, is at the top of her game with her new position at Vida House Publishing — until a mysterious manuscript from an old slush pile appears on her desk. Turning the pages, Jen finds herself drawn into the life of Sarra, a mixed-race Melungeon girl trapped by dangerous men in the turn of the century Appalachia. A risky hunch may lead to The Story Keeper’s hidden origins and its unknown author, but when the trail turns toward the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains, a place Jen thought she’d left behind forever, the price of a blockbuster next book deal may be higher than she’s willing to pay.”

I can always tell how much I like a book by the amount of time it takes for me to listen to it.  This one I started one day and finished the next.  It was really my kind of book.

Amazon readers say 4.8 stars…I agree.  My online library has more of her books but all of them are in book not audio form….I might just have to send a request for some audio books or I’ll have to get reading actual books more.
