What I’m Reading: The Prayer Box

I just finished up listening to The Prayer Box byLisa Wingate.  I got the audio book from Audible.  It was a suggested book and I took them up on their suggestion.  I listen to Aubile books on my phone when I’m driving.

This on was really good.  I am sure it’s considered Christian Fiction but it wasn’t completely sappy or preachy like some Christian Fiction books are.  I really liked it.

Here’s what Amazon had to say about it, “When Iola Anne Poole, an old-timer on Hatteras Island, passes away in her bed at ninety-one, the struggling young mother in her rental cottage, Tandi Jo Reese, finds herself charged with the task of cleaning out Iola’s rambling Victorian house.

Running from a messy, dangerous past, Tandi never expects to find more than a temporary hiding place within Iola’s walls, but everything changes with the discovery of eighty-one carefully decorated prayer boxes, one for each year, spanning from Iola’s youth to her last days. Hidden in the boxes is the story of a lifetime, written on random bits of paper–the hopes and wishes, fears and thoughts of an unassuming but complex woman passing through the seasons of an extraordinary, unsung life filled with journeys of faith, observations on love, and one final lesson that could change everything.”

The story is told in first person and that is always something that appeals to me.  I would rate it like a Nicholas Sparks book…just a good old story where lives change for the better.

Amazon readers gave it a 4.8 rating.  Honestly, that is one of the highest ratings I’ve seen.  Me I think I’d give it a 4.5.  That’s about as good of a rating I give without the book being an epic.

If you’re a constant reader or if you just take a novel with the beach or on vacation….this one would be a good choice.

I see that my online library has several of her books…I am off to see which one I want to read next.

  1. The first book I ever read of hers is still my favorite. It is called Tending Roses. I highly recommend it.
