YAHOO!!! I’m so happy. One of my favorite series authors came out with another book in the series. Karin Slaughter, the author, had wrote a wonder series with Will Trent as the main character. Oh how I’ve loved the books but then she wrote some other books. Most good, but not with the beloved, Will Trent…a few were a little too dark for me. I wished and wished she’d go back to Will Trent and she did. She wrote, The Last Widow.
I’m was a little nervous to read it as I had high expectations. Will the book live up to it?? I was even more nervous as Amazon readers only gave the book 4 out of 5 stars. Hmmm. That didn’t sound the best.
Well the book was pretty good. Many of the reviews said it was their least favorite of the series. I would say it’s not the best one but still pretty good. I’ve come to know and love the characters, after all, this is book #9 of the series. I think when I listen to them, it’s like a television series. I like some episodes better than others but that doesn’t mean I don’t like the series.
Here’s what Amazon had to say:
“On a hot summer night, a scientist from the Centers for Disease Control is grabbed by unknown assailants in a shopping center parking lot. The authorities are desperate to save the doctor who’s been vanished into thin air.
One month later, the serenity of a sunny Sunday afternoon is shattered by the boom of a ground-shaking blast—followed by another seconds later. One of Atlanta’s busiest and most important neighborhoods has been bombed—the location of Emory University, two major hospitals, the FBI headquarters, and the CDC.
Medical examiner Sara Linton and her partner Will Trent, an investigator with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, rush to the scene—and into the heart of a deadly conspiracy that threatens to destroy thousands of innocent lives. When the assailants abduct Sara, Will goes undercover to save her and prevent a massacre—putting his own life on the line for the woman and the country he loves.”
As I said earlier, Amazon readers only gave the book 4 stars….I think I’d give it 4.2. I remember some of the books of the series sticking with me long after I’d listened to them. Those I gave 4.8 stars….this one, it wasn’t quite as good but if you’re a Karin Slaughter fan, or a Will Trent fan, definitely give it a read.
If you’re interested, you can find the book HERE.
Jo, you introduced me to Linda Castillo. Which I absolutely love. And I’ve read some Karin Slaughter books. So I will read this. As a teenager (many years ago) I used to read And loved books written by Frank Slaughter. He was a doctor. I wonder if Karin is related to him. I will let you know if I enjoy it.
To Maxine’s question about Karin being related to Frank Slaughter. I just read at her website that she is not related to Frank. I haven’t read any of her books, I better check the library to see if they have them. Thanks Jo, for sharing.
I have a friend who works at the CDC. Wonder how she would like this book. I recently finished THE BOOK WOMAN OF TROUBLESOME CREEK and couldn’t put it down. Based on your recommendation and thank you1 Learning about the Blue People was interesting. I thought the last couple of chapters were not good but it did end happily.
I am currently waiting on that book at that book. I have enjoyed the whole series and am glad you like it. I have read several books based on your recommendations so really enjoy what you have to say about the books you read.
