I finished up the book The Couple Next Door by Shari Lapena.  This was a book that was recommended to me and I so wanted to read but then was left on a long waiting list to get it.  That’s when a blog reader stepped in a gave me her Audible credits.  THANKS again…I so appreciate it.
So was it worth the wait….Yes, it was. Â I did like the book. Â Without giving too much away, there’s a missing baby and the story reveals what happens in the days following the disappearance. Â The book goes a bit back and forth from before the disappearance to after. Â At times I thought one thing was going to happen and at other times I changed my mind thinking it was something else. Â I did figure the ending out before it happened…but I was still very interested in finishing the book. Â All in all, I liked it.
Here’s what Amazon had to say, “It all started at a dinner party. . .
A domestic suspense debut about a young couple and their apparently friendly neighbors—a twisty, rollercoaster ride of lies, betrayal, and the secrets between husbands and wives. . .
Anne and Marco Conti seem to have it all—a loving relationship, a wonderful home, and their beautiful baby, Cora. But one night when they are at a dinner party next door, a terrible crime is committed. Suspicion immediately focuses on the parents. But the truth is a much more complicated story.
Inside the curtained house, an unsettling account of what actually happened unfolds. Detective Rasbach knows that the panicked couple is hiding something. Both Anne and Marco  soon discover that the other is keeping secrets, secrets they’ve kept for years.Â
What follows is the nerve-racking unraveling of a family—a chilling tale of  deception, duplicity, and unfaithfulness that will keep you breathless until the final shocking twist.”
Amazon gave the book 4.1 stars. Â That surprised me a bit. Â I thought I’d go a little higher with 4.3. Â It was a fine mystery book. Â I do agree with some of the reviews though. Â It was hard to find any characters to truly love.
How do you listen to these books so fast? Do you listen all day long? I listen while I’m sewing or loading a quilt on the machine, but it takes forever to finish a book. I don’t listen while I quilt because the sound the machine makes tells me a lot about how it’s working.
I am glad you enjoyed it! No fun reading a bad book!
I just finished this book and loved it.
