** Before you read today’s post I just want to tell you that an auction is going on here on the blog and will be running until Noon central time on Monday.Ā Check it out here.**
I just finished up the audio book The Child by Fiona Barton.Ā This one had been in my hold box for a long time via my on line library.Ā It finally came to be my turn.Ā Since getting Hoopla, I’ve not put a lot of books on my holds list at the on line library so I was surprised when this one showed up.
So what did I think of the book, I loved it.Ā The story is told from five perspectives….in the audio book, those five perspectives are read by five different people.Ā It was great!Ā The story really doesn’t have a main character…more of a main event.Ā A body of a dead new born is discovered buried as a construction crew comes in to do some demolision.Ā Whose baby is it?Ā That’s the story and the news reporter Kate is hot on the trail to find out the circumstances.
Here’s what Amazon had to say:“As an old house is demolished in a gentrifying section of London, a workman discovers human remains, buried for years. For journalist Kate Waters, it’s a story that deserves attention. She cobbles together a piece for her newspaper, but she’s at a loss for answers. As Kate investigates, she unearths connections to a crime that rocked the city decades earlier. A newborn baby was stolen from the maternity ward in a local hospital and was never found.
But there is more to the story, and Kate is drawn—house by house—into the pasts of the people who once lived in this neighborhood that has given up its greatest mystery. She soon finds herself the keeper of unexpected secrets that erupt in the lives of three women—and torn between what she can and cannot tell…”
Amazon readers gave it 4.3 stars.Ā I read some of the reviews there and many of the readers figured out the identity of the child early on.Ā I did not.Ā I think that made the book more intriguing to me so I would give it 4.5 stars….mostly based on that it was good and I didn’t figure out the ending….I do recommend this one.
Sounds like this book should go on my list, thanks for the review
