I just finished up the audio book, That Night: A Novel by Chevy Stevens.  This was a new author to me and I just grabbed the audio book real quick one day as knew I’d be out the door soon and wanted to have time to download it while I was still close to WiFi.  I didn’t read the description.  I just knew it was a mystery.
I was very pleasantly surprised. Â The book was very good. Â It’s told in first person and I always love that. Â It’s my favorite format.
I have to say I also am in love with this narrator. Â When listening to an audio book a great reader really has the power to take a good book and make it better. Â The narrator is Jorjeana Marie. Â I liked her so much that I went on Audible to see if she had narrated others and happily she has…one by the same author so I think I am going to use up an Audible credit and purchase it.
The narrator really brings the book to life and makes it seem like it truly could have happened.
Here’s what Amazon had to say, “As a teenager, Toni Murphy had a life full of typical adolescent complications: a boyfriend she adored, a younger sister she couldn’t relate to, a strained relationship with her parents, and classmates who seemed hell-bent on making her life miserable. Things weren’t easy, but Toni could never have predicted how horrific they would become until her younger sister was brutally murdered one summer night.
Toni and her boyfriend, Ryan, were convicted of the murder and sent to prison.
Now thirty-four, Toni, is out on parole and back in her hometown, struggling to adjust to a new life on the outside. Prison changed her, hardened her, and she’s doing everything in her power to avoid violating her parole and going back. This means having absolutely no contact with Ryan, avoiding fellow parolees looking to pick fights, and steering clear of trouble in all its forms. But nothing is making that easy–not Ryan, who is convinced he can figure out the truth; not her mother, who doubts Toni’s innocence; and certainly not the group of women who made Toni’s life hell in high school and may have darker secrets than anyone realizes. No matter how hard she tries, ignoring her old life to start a new one is impossible. Before Toni can truly move on, she must risk everything to find out what really happened that night.  But in That Night by Chevy Stevens, the truth might be the most terrifying thing of all.”
Amazon readers give the book 4.2 stars. Â I’d likely agree. Â I am going to check out the author’s other books. Â Now the narrator performance…I’d give that a five!!
You are SO right, the narrator can really make a difference. I will look for her.
I commented before about your selections of audiobooks at your library. I am so jealous. I belong to three different libraries and none of them offer many of the books that are available to you. I wish for digital audiobooks that they could combine their resources and allow more people to borrow these books. I realize that audiobooks are more expensive than the ebooks, and that could be a way to make more of them available to more people. I just checked the library from the capital city of my state and it doesn’t have this author either. Totally bummed.
