A friend of mine recommended the author Heather Gudenkauf to me. Well I already knew of her as I read and reviewed the book Not a Sound: A Thriller, which I loved. Apparently she is an Iowa author and she writes with Iowa as the setting. I decided to give another book of hers a try. Sadly, via my online library the books are only available as ebooks…no audio books. I ended up heading over to Audible and burned a credit. I sure hoped Missing Pieces was a good book. I’m running out of Amazon credits and need to be selective.
So did I like it? YES. I did. This one is set in small town Iowa. There are deaths in the family, in fact several deaths in the same family. The question is who is committing these murders and why. I suspected several people along the way….I think the author did a good job with not narrowing the murder down to quickly.
Here’s what Amazon has to say:
“Sarah Quinlan’s husband, Jack, has been haunted for decades by the untimely death of his mother when he was just a teenager, her body found in the cellar of their family farm, the circumstances a mystery. For years Jack has avoided returning home, but when his beloved aunt Julia is in an accident, Jack and Sarah are forced to confront the past that they have long evaded.
Upon arriving, Sarah and Jack are welcomed by the family Jack left behind all those years ago. But as facts about Julia’s accident begin to surface, Sarah realizes that nothing about the Quinlans is what it seems. Sarah dives deep into the puzzling rabbit hole of Jack’s past, but the farther in she climbs, the harder it is for her to get out. And soon she is faced with a deadly truth she may not be prepared for.”
I was really surprised to see that Amazon readers only gave the book 4.0 stars. I really liked it more than that. I will be looking for her other books…in fact, I started another of her’s already. I’d give this one 4.3 stars. I think I’m going to slowly work my way through and read all of her books.
She is one of my favorite authors–you will love all of her books!
