What I’m Reading: Just the Nicest Couple

I have read several books by Mary Kubica. Most I have really liked so when I saw that there was a book out that I hadn’t read, Just the Nicest Couple, I thought I better put that on my waitlist.

The book finally became available and I was so excited. I immediately downloaded it and immediately started listening.

Well, I was about 3/4 of the way through listening to the book and I sat down to start writing this review. It was a day I had grandkids here and they were napping. I needed to quietly do something while they sleeping so knowing I was soon going to finish this book I started writing the bones of this blog post. I put the pictures in. I added the Amazon review. I looked to see how many stars readers gave the book.

WOW. Amazon readers only gave this book 4 out 5 stars. What? I am loving this book. It totally has my attention. Oh no. Now I was worried that the book was going to end badly. Why else would readers not give it a higher rating?

So begrudgingly I kept listening….UGH, I thought. This book has been so good so far.

So what did I think??

I think the book was just fine. Often in her books the “twist” (there always is one) throws me for a GIANT loop but this time, I guessed the twist. I was totally okay with that. I didn’t guess it until 3/4 of the way through and I was still plenty interested in finishing the book.

In the author’s other books, I didn’t guess the twist. I wonder if that might be true for other readers as well and that disappointed them…thus the low rating.

Here is what Amazon had to say:
“Jake Hayes is missing. This much is certain. At first, his wife, Nina, thinks he is blowing off steam at a friend’s house after their heated fight the night before. But then a day goes by. Two days. Five. And Jake is still nowhere to be found.

Lily Scott, Nina’s friend, and coworker, thinks she may have been the last to see Jake before he went missing. After Lily confesses everything to her husband, Christian, the two decide that nobody can find out what happened leading up to Jake’s disappearance, especially not Nina. But Nina is out there looking for her husband, and she won’t stop until the truth is discovered.”

Amazon readers gave the book 4 out of 5 stars. I am giving the book 4.3 stars. I would still pick up another book by the author and not be afraid it was a dud.

You can find this and other books by Mary Kubica HERE.
