What I’m Reading: Gone Missing

I just finished up book #4 Gone Missing: A Thriller (Kate Burkholder Novels) from Linda Castillo.  I’ve listened to all the other books…5 so far now and been happy with all of them.

I love the main character-Kate Burkholder…I like her love interest John Tomasetti too.  I love the small town cop with a mystery part of the story too.  I took an entire day, and sewed and listened.  It was great…good book-good fabric-perfect.

In this book, there are a series of disappearances in neighboring towns.  All of the people who have disappeared are Amish teens..all in a caught up in a turbulent time in their lives.  Kate is called in by the state authorities to help as she grew up Amish and can speak Pennsylvania Dutch.  She works on the cases with Tomasetti until an Amish girl who she know from her own town goes missing.  Kate is back home and on the case.  Are these missing cases connected?  If they are who is taking the children?

Here’s what Amazon has to say about it, “Rumspringa is the time when Amish teens are allowed to experience life without the rules. It’s an exciting time of personal discovery and growth before committing to the church. But when a young teen disappears without a trace, the carefree fun comes to an abrupt and sinister end, and fear spreads through the community like a contagion.

A missing child is a nightmare to all parents, and never more so than in the Amish community, where family ties run deep. When the search for the presumed runaway turns up a dead body, the case quickly becomes a murder investigation. And chief of Police Kate Burkholder knows that in order to solve this case she will have to call upon everything she has to give not only as a cop, but as a woman whose own Amish roots run deep.

Kate and state agent, John Tomasetti, delve into the lives of the missing teen and discover links to cold cases that may go back years. But will Kate piece together all the parts of this sinister puzzle in time to save the missing teen and the Amish community from a devastating fate? Or will she find herself locked in a fight to the death with a merciless killer?”

As I was writing this review I found out that there is a short story about Kate that I haven’t read….I am off to check out Long Lost: A Kate Burkholder Short Story..good news, it’s only 99 cents!!  This will be the first I’ve read…every one of the other books I’ve listened to on audio books…let me say, I really like the reader too.

I also saw that there will be another book out summer of 2014, The Dead Will Tell: A Kate Burkholder Novel.  You can bet I’ll be watching for that one too.

  1. I think you must have mentioned this author in a previous post, or I saw it someplace else. I read one of her books (Pray for Silence) and now I want to read them all! Thank you for sharing what you are reading — I love to read (and quilt, too!) and am always on the lookout for good books. It falls into the “so many books, so little time” — just like too many quilts to make!
