I recently finished listening to the audio book Behind Closed Doors by B.A. Paris. I like suspense type books now and then to break up my favorite historical fiction so I thought I’d give this book a try. The title sounded good…the cover looked good…but most importantly, was the book good?
This one was average…at least that’s what I think and here’s why:The story flips from past to present, I like that. The story involves mental and behavior abuse..I’m not a fan but know that with this type of book that get thrown in. I have trouble believing the “bad guy” could really pull off being so perfect and so bad all at once. The ending….that was a little confusing. Why did the friend suspect? If she did suspect, why didn’t she do more….
I live a life that is completely opposite from abusive in any way…sometimes it hard for me to believe there are people like that. I know there are…
Here’s what Amazon had to say, “Everyone knows a couple like Jack and Grace. He has looks and wealth; she has charm and elegance. He’s a dedicated attorney who has never lost a case; she is a flawless homemaker, a masterful gardener and cook, and dotes on her disabled younger sister. Though they are still newlyweds, they seem to have it all. You might not want to like them, but you do. You’re hopelessly charmed by the ease and comfort of their home, by the graciousness of the dinner parties they throw. You’d like to get to know Grace better.
But it’s difficult, because you realize Jack and Grace are inseparable.
Some might call this true love. Others might wonder why Grace never answers the phone. Or why she can never meet for coffee, even though she doesn’t work. How she can cook such elaborate meals but remain so slim. Or why she never seems to take anything with her when she leaves the house, not even a pen. Or why there are such high-security metal shutters on all the downstairs windows.
Some might wonder what’s really going on once the dinner party is over, and the front door has closed.”
Amazon readers say 4.1 stars….Hmm…Nope not that many for me. 3.8. There are better books out there.
I just finished reading the book “The Award” by Danielle Steel. I got weary of her books years ago and don’t pick them up very often. This one is about a girl in France during WWII and what she goes through. The first part of the book I could not put down! It slowed a little bit in the middle, but overall, it was a really good book. Since you like historical fiction, I wondered if you’d be interested in it. My husband is currently reading it as I was asking him questions about the war, France, etc. It peaked his interest, so he is racing through it now. I was in a block of the month at my LQS, about women spies and so that is why I was interested in this book when I usually avoid hers. Hope you enjoy it if you try it.
