What I’m Reading: After the Crash

I just finished up listening to the audio book After the Crash by Michel Bussi.  My on line library had new audio books out a few weeks ago and I quickly put as many as I could on my hold list.  All of them had long wait times and finally this one came up.  To be honest, I didn’t even remember what it was about.  When I got the notification that it was available, I quickly downloaded it and started listening.

All I could think of as I started the book –  Was it worth the wait?  Well I can tell you that I think itwas worth the wait.  This is a mystery?  It has a good premise.  The book was originally a French novel so there are a few clumsy sentences..nothing terrible.  I think it’s part of the translation.  I did like the book…it kept my interest easily.

Here’s what Amazon had to say, “Just after midnight on December 23, 1980, a night flight bound for Paris plummets toward the Swiss Alps, crashing into a snowy mountainside. Within seconds flames engulf the plane, which is filled with holiday travelers. Of the 169 passengers, all but one perish.

The sole survivor is a three-month-old girl–thrown from the airliner before fire consumes the cabin. But two infants were on board. Is “the Miracle Child of Mont Terri” Lyse-Rose or Emilie? The families of both girls step forward to claim the child. Dogged by bad luck, the Vitrals live a simple life, selling snacks from a van on the beaches of northern France. In contrast, the de Carvilles, who amassed a fortune in the oil business, are powerful-and dangerous.

Eighteen years later, a private detective tasked with solving the mystery of the girl known as “Lylie” is on the verge of giving up. As he contemplates taking his own life, Crédule Grand-Duc suddenly discovers a secret hidden in plain view. Will he live to tell it?

Meanwhile, Lylie, now a beautiful university student, entrusts a secret notebook into the hands of Marc, the brooding young man who loves her, and then vanishes. After Marc reads the notebook’s contents, he embarks on a frantic search for Lylie.

But he is not the only one looking for her.”

I was a little surprised.  Amazon readers only gave the book 3.7 stars.  Hmm….I liked the book.  I was thinking more like 4.2 stars.  Usually book that Amazon readers rate so low are books that I have trouble finishing.  I had no trouble finishing this book at all.  In fact I stayed up late to finish it.

  1. I really enjoy reading your reviews of books. I love to listen to audio books as I sew and I find I often like the same ones you do! I”m going to check with my library right now and see if they have it.

  2. Hi Jo
I started listening to ‘After the Crash’ but just can not get into it – might try one more time and see what I think. Love your blog.
