In my Facebook feed I regularly see recipes. Â I kind of like it as more of the recipes are quick…. Â Recently I saw a recipe for Philly Cheese Steak Sloppy Joes. Â They looked good and I knew I wanted to make them. Â I got the hamburger from the freezer. Â I grabbed an onion and green pepper from the garden. Â I had everything going and Hubby came home. Â He went straight to the computer…I could have trumped him and told him I wanted the computer for the recipe but instead decided to “wing it”!
Here’s what I did….
2 pounds of hamburger browned along with a chopped green pepper and a chopped onion.
I didn’t have fresh mushrooms so threw in a can of mushrooms (we’re fancy like that-HA)
Then I tried to remember what the spices were that the recipe suggested. Â Hmm…
All I could remember was 2 Tablespoons of taco seasoning and Worcestershire sauce. Â I added that. Â Next…2 Tablespoons of beef bullion.
That’s were I was stuck….Should I kick Hubby off the computer..NOPE. Â I can wing this. Â Â I added a 1/2 package (4 oz) of cream cheese. Â I didn’t know if that’s what the recipe called for but it sounded good.
I buttered the top half of the buns and put the hamburger concoction on top of the other bun half. Â I put a cheese slice on top and broiled it in the oven for just a minute or two until the cheese was melted.
Tops on and ready to eat…don’t they look yummy?
Better than looking yummy, they tasted amazing. Â Hubby says I can do a repeat on these. Â Originally I made a bigger batch thinking I’d feed them to the childcare kiddos the next day. Â Um, NOPE. Â That isn’t going to happen. Â Hubby says he wants left overs tomorrow. Â That’s one thing that I really think I’ll like about making these…I can make the meat filling anytime and refrigerate it. Â Then warm it up and put in the oven to broil when I need to serve it. Â This might be my new favorite for the fall when Hubby is in the field.
If you’re curious…here’s a link to the recipe that inspired this. My made up version was really-really good so I don’t think I’ll ever make the other recipe.  I sure do thank it for the inspiration though!!
