What I’m Making: Philly Cheese Steak Sloppy Joes

In my Facebook feed I regularly see recipes.  I kind of like it as more of the recipes are quick….  Recently I saw a recipe for Philly Cheese Steak Sloppy Joes.  They looked good and I knew I wanted to make them.  I got the hamburger from the freezer.  I grabbed an onion and green pepper from the garden.  I had everything going and Hubby came home.  He went straight to the computer…I could have trumped him and told him I wanted the computer for the recipe but instead decided to “wing it”!

Here’s what I did….

2 pounds of hamburger browned along with a chopped green pepper and a chopped onion.

I didn’t have fresh mushrooms so threw in a can of mushrooms (we’re fancy like that-HA)

Then I tried to remember what the spices were that the recipe suggested.  Hmm…

All I could remember was 2 Tablespoons of taco seasoning and Worcestershire sauce.  I added that.  Next…2 Tablespoons of beef bullion.

That’s were I was stuck….Should I kick Hubby off the computer..NOPE.  I can wing this.    I added a 1/2 package (4 oz) of cream cheese.  I didn’t know if that’s what the recipe called for but it sounded good.

I buttered the top half of the buns and put the hamburger concoction on top of the other bun half.  I put a cheese slice on top and broiled it in the oven for just a minute or two until the cheese was melted.

Tops on and ready to eat…don’t they look yummy?

Better than looking yummy, they tasted amazing.  Hubby says I can do a repeat on these.  Originally I made a bigger batch thinking I’d feed them to the childcare kiddos the next day.  Um, NOPE.  That isn’t going to happen.  Hubby says he wants left overs tomorrow.  That’s one thing that I really think I’ll like about making these…I can make the meat filling anytime and refrigerate it.  Then warm it up and put in the oven to broil when I need to serve it.  This might be my new favorite for the fall when Hubby is in the field.

If you’re curious…here’s a link to the recipe that inspired this.  My made up version was really-really good so I don’t think I’ll ever make the other recipe.  I sure do thank it for the inspiration though!!
