What I’m Making: A Tik Tok Recipe

I don’t use the app TikTok. Well, that’s not completely accurate. If my adult kiddos send me something, I will look at or watch it but I don’t seek anything out on my own and don’t even have the app.

Recently my son Buck sent me a really good, healthy, and super easy-to-make recipe.

I have looked everywhere to find the video or link to the recipe again but I just can’t find it. My apologies to whoever first posted it. This is what the recipe looks like finished. You can opt to leave out the chicken. The original recipe did not call for chicken. This is a tomato, spinach, pasta recipe.

The original recipe didn’t have any real measurements and I don’t have any either. I wanted to have enough for Karl and I and then enough for a couple of meals of leftovers.

Start out with olive oil in a pan. Add tomatoes, onions, and garlic, and let that cook long enough for the tomatoes to pop and release their juices.

Add some Italian season and red pepper flakes to your liking. Salt and pepper to taste as well.

Cook it down until it looks like this.

Add a bag of fresh spinach. Cook it down to look like this.

Then add your noodles and chicken. I think any kind of noodles would be good. The original recipe called from some precooked noodles from Trader Joe’s. Our closest Trader Joes is about 2 hours away so some cooked spaghetti noodles worked great.

I really liked this. I wish I wouldn’t have added quite so many red pepper flakes…but it happens.

I am for sure making this next summer when I have lots of cherry tomatoes again. Here, my garden is gone and I’m back to buying tomatoes from the store and they are never quite as good.

If you give it a try, you’ll have to let me know. My son Buck and I both really liked it.

  1. Yummy recipe, canned tomatoes and frozen chopped spinach also work well in this. I prefer canned tuna instead of chicken. Store cupboard super, what’s not to like?
    Regards from soaking wet England

  2. That looks and sounds yummy. I think I would do like you did and add the chicken, but either way would be good. Thank you for sharing.

  3. I need this for next Summer. Thank you. I had cubed turkey breast in the freezer so tonight I made this Pot Pie. Hubby wants it again. Like you, I have no measurements.

In a big bowl, toss cubed turkey (or chickens breast) with a mix of poultry seasoning, celery salt and rosemary to your taste. Add mixed vegetables that have been rinsed in a strainer & drained to separate & get rid of any frost. In saucepan, make 3 cups gravy from a package(s). I used rolled pie crusts (from a box) & put 1 in square baking dish, pressing it up sides. Layer half into crust. Layer half of gravy. Repeat Lay on top crust, cut vent slits. Whisk an egg with black pepper & give crust a wash. Bake until browned (1 hour at least). Let rest 15 minutes.

  4. I have another Tik-Tok recipe. Chicken Cobbler. Like you, I’m not a user of the app, but this one made mainstream media. It’s easy, and delicious.

  5. Definitely trying this, but without meat. The tuna idea sounds like a good addition, or even grilled salmon.
The pot pie sounds like it would be one for leftover Thanksgiving turkey.
    Thanks for both!
