What I am working on…

Read all the way to the end of the post to find out about my Accuquilt Go! Giveaway.

About two months ago I was busy making scrappy nine patches for the Crab Apple quilt in Bonnie Hunter’s Leader and Ender book.   I never stopped to count how many blocks I had and apparently, I got carried away.  I had 63 extra nine patch blocks! I’ve been hunting for a pattern that would allow me to use them up when I came across Judy Laquidara’s pattern Cotton Candy Squares in her Weekend Quilts book.

I am deviating from the pattern bit and don’t know exactly what I am going to do as I go along, but for now, these are the blocks that I am coming up with.

Where Judy has a light print in the center of the block, I opted for a dark.  I also think that I will be putting a dark cornerstone in the sashing between the blocks.   I am not at all sure what it will turn out looking like, it’s a decide as I go quilt.  I have used up the 63 nine patches I had made and made an extra 17.  Now I am at a stand still with this project until I have more nine patches finished.  I only sew them as a leader and ender project so this is a quilt that will be hanging around for a while.

  1. I’m working on Crabapples as a L/E right now. But I’m using 2″ squares. Good idea for the leftover blocks, I love your fabrics, the new quilt will be terrific.

  2. 63 extra nine patches! I guess you got a little carried away. Having blocks and needing to decide how to use them is an excellent problem for a quilter to have.

  3. I’m doing the Crap Apples right now too as my L/E. I love what you are doing with your extras. Sure doesn’t take long to get too many, does it??? Can’t wait to see how this turns out.

  4. Wow, who knew too many nine patches could be such a good thing? This is going to be a beauty, I love these fabrics. Excellent choice to have a dark center square too.

  5. I love your blocks. Scrap quilts are my absolute favorite, and I’m sure this will turn into a beautiful quilt. I really need to get my hands on Bonnie Hunter’s book – I’ve heard a lot about it!

  6. I read your post on Stash Manicure so I just had to jump over. I love those blocks.
You’re in my google reader now, so I won’t miss anything LOL.
