Weekend News

Hubby and I both enjoyed a long weekend away from our jobs.   Friday we went to Rochester, MN.   Gold Rush, the big antique show, was going on…also in neighboring town Oronoco.   Can you believe we didn’t go??   We’ve learned that we really don’t care to go to antique events anymore.   If we go to an auction and find things, prices are for sure half price if not, 75% less than what you see prices at an antique shop…that spoils a person.   The other problem, Hubby and I actually don’t have a lot of STUFF in the house and we don’t really like STUFF.   Weird I know.   Most antiquers have STUFF wall to wall.

Saturday we went our separate ways.   I went to the Amish south of us and then on to Oelwein.   I’ll share more about what I did another day.

Hubby went to an auction.   He was trying to buy this….

It’s from an old hardware store.   Drawer love was happening!!   Oh my.   I loved it.   We weren’t possitive with a plan to do with it.   We hoped to put it in our basement once we finish it but if we couldn’t get it out there, we planned to have Hubby use it in the garage.   Oh, it was nice…

The top came off in three pieces but the bottom was all one piece.   It was 12′ long.   Oh my.

We made a plan to spend up to $1200 and Hubby stuck to the plan but we didn’t get it….Bummer.   He would have had to raise his bid to $1300.   That was too much for us to pay but oh, we loved it.   We’ll be on the look out again.   It’s part of the auction game.

There was an old country school house on the sale.   Yes, the whole building.   It was in good shape but it would have to be moved.   That sold for $300.   The big expense to that is the move but oh, won’t that be a fun project for someone?!

Sunday we spend cleaning the garage and getting ready for a garage sale this coming weekend.   What a job.   By the end of the day I was sneezing from all the dust and dirt.   I was sore and very tired.   We made lots of progress.   The theme of this sale is price it all super low so we get rid of it ALL!   Kalissa brought lots of stuff over too.

She is selling out anything that she has left from her vendor shows…so her windows are priced slightly above wholesale.

Hubby is cleaning out the back garage….everything goes.   He told me price ladders at $5.   He wants them gone!!

There is more and more and more.

We have lots of furniture we planned on painting but alas.

The sale will be HUGE.   Kalissa still has to bring a couple pick up loads of stuff over….

Hubby has two pick up loads to bring up from the back garage.   We want to start fresh.

We have some of it priced but there’s a lot left to price.

That’s what I’ll be doing in the evening for most of the week.

How weird are we…who spends their vacation cleaning out the garage???

Our Sunday ended with me getting permission to share this…..A picture of Carver with this caption, Does that say B-I-G B-R-O-T-H-E-R!?!?!    Baby #2 coming in March 2019  ❤️“”

We’ve known for a bit now but I wasn’t suppose to say anything public but now I can…YAHOO!!   Carver’s little sibling will make grandchild #4 for us.   We couldn’t be happier!!   Thankfully Kalissa hasn’t been too sick.   Tired, of course, but not sick.

..and that is the wrap up of our weekend.

  1. The look on Carver’s face is precious! Congrats to mom and dad and grandma and grandpa! I love the furniture piece that was at the beginning of the blog. It’s beautiful. Several other pieces in your photos would be interesting to see but alas I live too far away and there are no such auctions in my neck of the woods.

I would love to come to your garage sale! I hope it will be well advertised and doesn’t rain. Those windows are gorgeous! You have lots of pretty things. Why not have your own auction? And that cabinet, I think I would have tried the $1300 and then quit. It could hold lots of fabric. Paint each drawer the color of the fabric!

  3. Congratulations on your new grand baby!!!! Carver’s expressions are too cute!!!! Hope your garage sale is a huge hit! Looks like you have a lot of good stuff, not the usual clothes!!!

  4. Congrats on the upcoming grand baby. They help to make life sweet.
You are not the only one who spends time off on projects around the house. We have done the garage clean out a few times. I wish we lived close enough to come to your sale, Looks like some great items there.

  5. Wish I was closer. Ladders make good quilt displays. I like the kind that lean against the wall. I have one with 6 quilts on it instead of them in a closet. You’ve got some good stuff to sell.

What a great announcement! So happy for you all. I know Carver will be excited for a little brother or sister.
Wish I lived closer for your garage sale. You’ve got some neat-looking stuff!!

  7. Congrats on the expected new arrival. And good luck on the garage sale. Wish I could get there, but way too far away for me. Thanks for sharing.

  8. Oh, Jo, we heard the same news last night, due the same month, #17 is on its way! (I’m not supposed to tell anyone who knows that family, but I don’t think you count!)
So much of your garage sale items are made of wood, my favorite. I hope you have a great sale.

  9. Too bad I don’t live closer. The one ladder in the back with the round rungs would be perfect for displaying my quilts! When I saw the white iron bed frame I thought of Bonnie Hunter & Quiltville Inn. It looks like it might not be a twin though.

  10. Congratulations to you all! I know that Carver will be a great big brother! Love his expressions!
Sure wish I lived closer to you…looks like you have some great things for sale.

  11. Wish I could move Texas closer to Iowa! I’d be at that sale in a heartbeat! Congratulations on the new Spring arrival. I know everyone must be excited.

  12. Congratulations on your upcoming Grandbaby, a new baby is always so exciting! We are waiting for the arrival of #10, he was due last week. I guess he’s not as excited to see us as we are him. Good luck with your sale. I wish we had some good auctions here. But we seem to always get auctions at high priced homes, we for sure can’t afford the prices.
