So the wedding quilt saga continues on…
Our daughter Kalissa is getting married on September 5th. Â I make a wedding quilt of our child’s choice as a wedding gift for each of the kids. Â Kalissa and Craig started out wanting a Perkiomen Daydreams quilt.
Together Kelli and I have made 3 1/2 of these.
I wasn’t too nervous about making another one.
Then they changed and wanted something different…a Bargello.
Then they hemmed and hawed and I’ll be honest…I kind of drug my feet. Â I didn’t want to make one but if that’s what they truly wanted I decided I would give it a try. Â I asked them to pick the pattern they wanted and they sent this to me….
It looked a little complex to me. Â Then I said pick the colors.
Their feet started dragging. Â Then they picked double wedding ring but that didn’t seem like a real choice…both were hesitant and I didn’t feel good about it.
I asked that instead of looking through the internet that they look at my quilt books instead so they could at least come up with colors. Â They ended up both liking a corn and beans block. Â I dug through and found a couple different versions. Â Of course they like the block here and the border there but not colored like that but colored like this. Â AHH!!!!!!!!!!
So the decision is that it will be a corn and beans block. Â I’ve tackled a corn and beans block before when I made this.
So the plan is to start making blocks and design as we go…doesn’t that sound encouraging?!?!?!
I did buy the fabric so at least part is locked in place and a decision on that can’t be changed.
She wanted grays, yellows, and teals. Â I ordered it all on line through Whittle’s Fabrics. Â I can’t say enough good things about them. Â We picked a fabric line we liked and put that in our cart. Â Then we found the teal. Â We then told them to look around the store and see if anything else they had might work with what we had. Â We told them to send up to 10 more 1/2 yard cuts. Â This is what was sent.
We LOVE it!!
I am really anxious to start on this. Â The wedding in September 5th and I am a mom who has the quilt finished on the wedding day. Â I have to finish up my Bonnie Challenge quilt and then I’ll be focusing on this. Â I’m a little upset with myself for not being further along but with all the changes this quilt has morphed around it was hard to really start.
I did tell them no more changing….let’s hope they listen.
Love those fabrics!!! The colors are beautiful!! ( BTW, our best friends here in Waterloo are best friends with the Whittles family and used to make annual trips to visit them.)
Perfect block for a farming community. Beautiful fabrics! You’re right, Mr. Whittle is The BEST! (Family’s nice, too.) In one of my books there is a pretty 2-block quilt combining Corn and Beans with Gentleman’s Fancy. Think about a combo ….
Those fabrics are gorgeous.
Been seeing a lot of yellow and gray quilts lately and really want to do one when I get a chance. Have to finish up a few things first though.
Can’t wait to see this when it’s finished.
Love the colors….The quilt will be amazing—–
Wow – that quilt went from totally crazy piecing time to much more manageable – and it’s a good thing with the lack of time you have to make it :) I love Whittles too! We make a trip up there at least twice a year and often more. They are the nicest people and have the best fabric values around!
It’s going to be a beautiful quilt! I love Whittle’s too. Their store is only a couple of hours from my home and I’m planning to visit them again soon.
Do you have the pattern for this awesome wedding quilt you made?
The big quilt that I am pictured holding is Perkiomen Daydreams. It is featured in Bonnie Hunter’s book Scraps and Shirttails book 1. I love the quilt..it’s so fun.
It will be gorgeous. Best of all it will be made especially for them by someone that loves them. THAT is what they will see and remember. May your sewing be trouble free.
I love Whittle’s and order from them sometimes, I love those fabrics, going to be a beautiful quilt.
Beautiful colors! Whittles does have great fabrics! Love the quilt design picked also!
