From now until Bonnie Hunter’s new book comes out in September you’ll find me right here on Wednesdays sharing my progress on a UFO (unfinished project). My hope is to get some finished so I won’t feel guilty sewing on new projects from her new book. It’s not to late to join in the fun. You can find my first post about it here. You can see my listing of all my Bonnie Hunter UFOs here.
Gradually over the last month I’ve been up early and sewing on my Rectangle Wrangle blocks. It’s been a great project to work on in the early mornings. I have 45 minutes to sew and I can get 9 blocks done in about that amount of time.
Believe it or not, I am not making this quilt bigger than it already is…I know. It shocked me too. It’s big enough as is.
Anyway over time I managed to get the blocks done. I debated about leaving them and just continue to work on the project in the mornings but then Labor Day came…and I was tempted and decided heck with it….I am sewing these together.
Looking at those blocks I never dreamed it would look this good once it was all sewn together. What do you think?I’m blown away.
Next up I need to get the outer blocks cut out. I haven’t touched them at all. To be honest, I never thought this would get this far so those weren’t needed yet.
When I started my UFO work I didn’t have a stitch even sewn in this. I am happy, so very happy, to be this far.
Sadly, until time allows, this project is going to the wayside….I know I should finish it but as of this moment, I have to cut the outer blocks out and that is a perfect nap time project. So if time allows this week I’ll slowly get them cut out. Then I have to get Hubby to carry them upstairs for me and after that, I’ll be sewing on them again.
Little by little, it will happen. In the meantime, I’m liking going to start more actively sewing on different UFO.
I’m going to keep working on my UFOs. Bonnie’s book isn’t here yet so sew, sew, sew.
Wow! The pattern that emerged is wonderful! I really need to pick a scrap pattern to use as leaders and enders. Thanks for the inspiration!
She turned out beautiful! Are you going to keep her or is she going to be a wedding quilt? Blessings, Gretchen
Wow. How many pieces are in a block? How many blocks are in this quilt? I can’t get one block done in 45 minutes much less 9.
The quilt looks fabulous, and so does Ruby! I can’t get over how much you get done, Jo. You’re an inspiration.
What a stunning quilt! It’s beautiful. What a great surprise it must have been when you laid it out. Cute shot of Ruby too.
That looks great! I’d be tempted to bind it as is. I just went and looked up the quilt…that border looks like it will take a while!
I love your use of all those plaids, it looks great. I’m currently working on 9 UFO projects that I hope to finish before the end of the year also. I have Bonnies new book on order along with her ruler so I best get going.
I’ve made Rectangle Angle in Civil War prints and it is one of my favorites. I thought Bonnie’s border was too busy for me so I did a narrow inner border in black and picked a border fabric that worked with the quilt and added that in the same size as Bonnie’s border blocks. I did the binding in black. It is truly spectacular so consider doing that and your quilt will be finished in no time.
Lovely work–once again I find myself thinking, “I want to make that!”
Love the quilt. It just entered my “to do” list!! I haven’t had any more UFO finishes, instead I started another quilt. I am care giving for my mother-in-law now, so I need some easy sewing that I can just pick up when I have a few minutes. Most of my UFOs need to be quilted or I have to make big decisions to finish them. But I did get both of my kids wedding quilts done by their weddings this summer. That was a good feeling!!
I’m loving it! You get so much done, it’s amazing! Love all the yummy fabrics you chose!
Beautiful., I love it! Can’t wait to see it finished. Ruby likes ,it too! Your challenge has been great for me because it has pushed me to work on some UFOs. While they aren’t Bonnie’s quilts it feels good to finish something, anything!
I love how the Rectangle Wrangle is looking. I know it is Bonnie’s pattern but thanks for inspiring.
Beautiful quilt and Ruby set it of to a tee, especially the second photo, all laid out and comfy.
Did you see that Bonnie reposted one of your photos on Facebook?
I got an 87 x 110 t-shirt quilt and am almost done with 2 sides of the binding. I have an hour and a half before bed, tomorrow evening and Sunday afternoon to sew. My new Bonnie book isn’t here yet, either and I am TOTALLY OKAY working on UFOs. . .think I will go load Boxy Stars in the quilt machine.
