From now until Bonnie Hunter’s new book comes out in September you’ll find me right here on Wednesdays sharing my progress on a UFO (unfinished project). My hope is to get some finished so I won’t feel guilty sewing on new projects from her new book. It’s not to late to join in the fun. You can find my first post about it here. You can see my listing of all my Bonnie Hunter UFOs here.
Last week I was working on getting more red square and neutral rectangles sewn together so I could keep progressing with my Texas Braid quilt….This week I started in sewing them on.
UGH. Immediately I was frustrated. I am working on braids that have the dark to the right side now.
Adding on the neutral piece seems completely awkward. Someone had written to me in the comment section that they had trouble with their quilt as they too felt awkward with the construction. UGH. I had all the other braid sewn so I wasn’t going to quilt but I sure didn’t like it.
Then I got thinking…Rather than try to sew it like this….the awkward way,
Sew it like this….Tuck the piece that needs to sewn on to the underneath.
MUCH better…MUCH, MUCH better.
So now I’m back in business….I also took advantage of nap time and the baby napping too and cut out the rest of Winston Ways. With the left overs from those strips I cut bricks and squares.
My older childcare kiddo got up sooner than the sleepers and came out to “help”.
She was my sorter. She went on and on about the wonderful quilt “we” could make with these pieces. We talked about which were rectangles, which were squares and which were simple scraps. She sorted into color piles…she chatted and chatted as we went along. I love one on one time with the kids. It’s so nice to listen to their stories and share my life with them.
These few 20 minutes were some of my best time of childcare this week. We often get in the hub-bub of things with trying to squeeze everything in that I don’t get enough one on one time with them.
I really want to find a pattern that would use these scraps so she can see what “we” made….Hmmmm. I’m sure there is one. I’m off to hunt it down.
Find me back here next week sharing some more UFO progress.
