Well today is the last day of the UFO challenge to finish up your UFO before the new Bonnie Hunter Mystery is out. Well the mystery came on Friday so today is the last day to show off your progress on the you UFO project.
I am happy to report that I ended up finishing two UFO projects during the event….first I finished Grand Illusion.
..and now I finished Wild Child too! We have snow here so there’s no outside places to take pictures. I opted for my bed instead.
Ruby was happy with that. She jumped right up to get her picture taken.
I love the quilt. It really doesn’t fit the coloring or style of my house at all….but love it I do. It’s so fresh and totally scrappy.
I found a WONDERFUL polka dot at Whittles for the backing. The top has all the colors of the polka dots on the backing. Kelli saw my finished quilt and was in love so she grabbed our 2 1/2″ strip bucket and hauled it home so she could cut her triangles out.
I had asked for advice earlier on what to do for the narrow border. After reading through the comments I liked the idea of a pink polka dot. There wasn’t enough of what I had so I checked Whittles and ended up getting the one shown. Cathy at Whittles was such a sweetie. She pulled her pink polka dots and sent me a picture of them and let me pick. I love the service and I love fabric. Although it’s a polka dot, the dots are in rows….totally cute and perfect.
This whole quilt got it’s start thanks to blog reader and retreater from the Oelwein group, Linda. She had some of this floral print fabric that I commented that I really liked. She ended up gifting some to me!! That got the quilt started and from there it rolled right along. Thanks so much Linda. Your gift of border fabric will have me smiling for years to come. Each time I see the quilt I’ll always think of you.
I’ll host this challenge again next fall so make sure to come back…and for those of you who asked for a block of the month type UFO finish it up party. I’m hoping to host that next year too. Keep watching the blog for details. Before you head off to check up on the blogs in the linky party I want to share a couple UFO quilt pictures that were sent to me.
First up is my friend Nell. She is the one who helped me start this venture two years ago. The lucky girl got a snow day that allowed her the final push she needed to put the last stitches.
Beautiful. This quilt is on my bucket list. I just need to get some time to cut up shirts!!
Diane is WA also sent a photo saying, “Hi Jo. I finished both the quilts on my list. One went to my son and this is Bonnie’s Jingle Bell Square from the latest Quiltmaker magazine. ”
Here’s her Jingle Bell Square.
Jingle Bell Square is also on my list of quilts I want to make. You can find that pattern here. I have to say, this pattern has been calling my name!!
