My UFO has progress to report…Yahoo.
I got a chance to work on it before I realized that my fireman benefit quilt needs to be finished in a couple weeks.
My blocks all have their string corners on them. Â That didn’t happen as easy as it looks…(does it ever?) Â I was sewing along getting the corners put on when I realized that somewhere along the way, after I had pieced the string triangles, I decided to make the quilt bigger.
So I had my 30 blocks done but was short corners for the remaining six blocks. Â That sent me back to the sewing machine….and that left me with more blocks that needs the paper ripped off of them. Â I happen to have three little kiddos in my life that LOVE depapering string blocks. Â Truly, they love it. Â See?
They take the job so seriously. Â It’s cute.
If you  have two and three year olds in your life, let them give depapering a try.  It’s so cute to see them work at it.  More than that….it’s great for fine motor strengthening and great for hand eye coordination.  It’s so fun to see how much they have progressed.  Last fall these same kiddos helped me another day.  I had to “start” all of the papers and rip a little for them.  Now they are pros.
I don’t know how much I’ll get done on my UFO Talkin’ Turkey next week as the firemen benefit quilt and the baby quilt have to have attention first.
You can find me back here next week…hopefully with a little progress. I’ll be happy if I can simply get a few of the borders sewn onto these blocks. Little by little, it will happen.

They are adorable! I can tell you that 5-6 year olds love to de-paper too! They love the feeling that they are helping you out with a “grown up” job. I love the feeling that they are part of my quilting life.
I always trim my blocks before removing the paper. Apparently you don’t have a problem trimming the bias edges. Good job for the children.

Sew cute seeing the kids help. Talking Turkey is on my “to do” list and I’ve been collecting reds (used some of them for Allietare) but I’m afraid I have too many things started that need to be done first. Love seeing yours though.

I made progress on the 9 patch blocks for Garden Party. I also put together a Streak of Sunshine baby quilt that now needs quilted. I also have to get back into that room and put stuff away. I convinced myself I had time to pull fabric out, not put it back when I decided it wasn’t what I wanted. It is almost 70 degrees here today, but forecast is for a foot of snow tomorrow. . .

I turned in my UFO list to my guild on Monday, so I have a goal for the year. Several of them have deadlines, so I am pretty confident they will get done. I am going to a Bonnie Hunter retreat in May, so I have two quilts I want to get finished by then. Worked on a One Block Wonder wall hanging last night and I need some inspiration for the quilt I am working on for my grandson. I also was frustrated because my long arm tension was off. I was trying out a new bamboo batting. When I put on a piece of Warm and Natural batting that I usually use, the tension was fine. Has anyone else had problems with your machine not liking a batting?

My two youngest grandchildren are just shy of 3 1/2 and I can see Hayden doing that. She loves to help with anything. You should have seen her helping daddy install flooring! Her brother, not so much. Holden would rather be playing with his toys or just sitting there talking at you….nonstop!
Knee was hurting last week so no longarming for me, instead I spent my time working on En Provence. Blocks are in rows and the sashing between rows is ready to be stitched on. I’ve already assembled the first border of 4-patches with points. I hope to get this top done by the weekend if I can sneak in some machine time.

You do know that odds are high these kiddos will be bitten by the sewing bug long before they leave your care,good for you Lovely thought isn’t it. Learning and becoming comfortable with paper piecing was one of my goals last year but it’s on my list for this year also. Depapering isn’t all that much fun for sure.
Loved seeing the kids removing the papers. They are sure to grow up with great quilting skills!
