I have a couple of cross-stitch finishes to share with you. First up is I Collect by With They Needle and Thread. I stitched this thinking it would go great with my Keeper of the Pins display.

I stitched this on Vintage Country Mocha. I’m not sure, I think it might be a scrap that was 36 count. I did change some of the colors so it would look better with the Keeper of the Pins set.
I put interfacing on the front and back and then sewed around the edges leaving an opening. I do angle in my corners so they don’t come out super pointy.

I clipped the corners and turned it right side out. I use this pointed dowel stitch that came in the bag of polyfill.

I lightly stuff the corners with polyfill. I always buy mine at the thrift store. I have good luck getting it there. A bag is often only 50 cents or $1.

I filled the rest with lizard litter which is the same as crushed walnut shells.

When it gets about this full, I stuff the corners with polyfill and then more crushed walnuts and then polyfill at he opening.

Then I stitched it all up. I put it in my display. It is perfect and exactly what I had hoped for.

I really had debated on whether or not I wanted to finish or abandon this piece. I’m so glad that finishing it won out.

This is on my dining room table all of the time now. I just love that it’s there. I don’t have to worry about not having enough seasonal pieces for a display. This covers every season in my life. HA!!

While I was finishing I had this of Kelli’s at my house…I had stitched this on a 40 count but Kelli stitched hers on a lower count. I’m not sure what. I’m guessing 32 count.

I did everything the exact same way.

I got this far and started ladder-stitching the opening closed.

That’s when I realized if I never teach Kelli to do this, she’ll never do it herself. So I stopped stitching the opening closed and when she came to my house. I showed her how and handed it off…WHEW. Hopefully, I’m passing the torch on finishing her cross-stitch pillows. HA!
I set hers by mine. You can see how much more petite mine is. Mine is stitched on 40 count.

I think I forgot to say. The pattern is called Kind Words by Notforgotten Farm. It is one of my favorite pieces I’ve stitched that is small. It’s just perfect for me!
I’m so glad to have these finished and ready to display. Kelli might add some kind of embellishment to hers yet. We’ll see.
I’m going to Notforgotten Farms today! Great place!
That sounds like the BEST FUN!!
Thanks for sharing both sizes together, always wonder how much of a difference it makes! One of these days I am going to learn how to make these cute pillows!
Jo, I’m sure that you’ve probably answered this question before, but why do you use the crushed walnuts as a filler instead of just straight poly fill? Is it about the weight, or pliability of the finished piece?
I really like both finishes you did. I am glad you finished I Collect because I think it is adorable. I also like both finishes of Kind Words. Kellie has been quite fortunate to have you finish hers, so smart of you to teach her instead!
What a nice display. How big is your wooden tray on your table? It can hold lots of your creations. Conversation starter in your home! Thanks for the Inspiration and congrats on a couple more nice finishes!
The bowl is beautiful!!!! Love all the fun stuff in it,
Hello Jo, you’re an amazing woman. I live my stitching life through you. I’m trying to stitch on linen ( just starting)but the 36 and 40 count are so hard to see. I remember you made a comment on working with a 26 count you said you where nervous about it. Isn’t it bigger visually than say 40ct. I am amazed what you are able to do so quickly on 40 CT. You make a hard life most enjoyable when I read your post. Thank you for you time,Cindy
