The great people over at C&T Publishing set me some ebooks that I have been looking through and reading at night before I go to bed. One of my favorites in the bunch is Growing Up Modern: 16 Quilt Projects for Babies & Kids by Allison Harris. You might know Allison from her great blog, Cluck Cluck Sew. She has awesome quilt ideas that lean towards the modern side of quilting. I have loved her patterns and designs so I was hoping her book would be good too….and let me tell you, it is.
I love the photography and layout of the book. It’s really very eye pleasing as it is uncluttered and colors are crisp.
One thing that I found very interesting and encouraging to mom’s with young kids is a section with suggestions on how to squeeze sewing time into your life. All the projects are kid friendly.
I would have definitely made this quilt for my son Karl when he was growing up.
As a Lego freak, he would have loved it!!
As a mom who was a big reader, I loved this idea too.
Isn’t it cute?? By the way, that’s my favorite book version of “The Three Billy Goats Gruff” too. I’ve read it over and over and over to childcare kids.
Here is a simple quilt that I liked for it’s easy/quick construction.
There are 16 projects in the book. Seven of the quilts have directions so the quilts can be made in several sizes. That gives more bang for the buck.
I love that there are boy friendly and girl friendly quilts. Sometimes books and fabrics lean a little too girly for my taste. Not this one.
Can’t you see all of these quilts made for either gender?? Of all the quilts, this next one is my favorite.
I just love the red square intermingled in there. All of the projects can be made by beginners or experienced quilters alike.
I highly recommend this book for anyone who wants to make quilts for kids. In fact, it’s my favorite kid friendly quilt book of all I’ve seen. Easy construction, yet very appealing.
Sadly, I don’t have a copy to give away. I sure wish I did, as I know many of you would love it! Congrats to you Allison…great book.
I ordered the book saturday because I thought it looked interresting. Now I know I will love it! Cant wait for it to arrive. Thanks ever so much for sharing this. Take care.
I think the book is great also. I already have plans to make 2 of the quilts.
Thanks for the book review. My library has it – yeah!!
